The Office of Public Utilities, Electric Division, in conjunction with the Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) will be hiring for the Lineman Apprentice position(s). Duties include but are not limited to assisting in various tasks to construct and maintain high voltage electrical equipment and apparatus and to respond to electrical emergency situations; assemble and disassemble various types of electrical material or equipment in high places, below ground level, at ground level, or within confined spaces, often while energized.
Climb ladders, poles, steel structures, in and out of ditches, on and off equipment, often near high voltage lines.
A minimum passing score of 6 or greater on the NJATC written exam is required to apply, and proof of score must be uploaded to the application.
If you have taken the NJATC exam within the past twenty-four (24) months from the final date to apply and have proof of a six (6) or greater, then you will not need to test again.
The exam can only be taken once in a 90-day period.

Applicants who can verify (by providing undisputable documenting evidence) that they are participating in and in good standing, or have completed an accredited electrical apprenticeship recognized by the Electrical Training Alliance, and whose program utilized the ETA aptitude test requiring a score of 6 or better to enter said apprenticeship program, may qualify for a direct interview as determined by the JATC if apprenticeship opportunities are available The minimum application requirements are 17 years of age or older, high school graduate or GED equivalent, unrestricted 20/20 eyesight (vision correctable to 20/20 accepted) with no color blindness, a valid driver’s license at time of background and the ability to obtain an Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) within the first 12 months of employment.
All qualified applicants will receive a first interview.
After the first interview, top scored applicants will be required to attend a mandatory 2 day climbing orientation before moving on to the second interview.
Hiring decisions will be made after the second interview.
