Job Overview: Our client is currently seeking an Engineering Director to lead the Broadband Communication Systems (BCS) Sector of Hardware Engineering team. The Engineering Director will lead a team of 150 plus engineers and managers in support of the BCS sector product and program portfolio. This role will coordinate all hardware engineering needs for the site and direct engineering execution for the programs, proposals and pursuits in this portfolio. The Engineering Director will report to the Vice President of Engineering of the BCS sector.
Ideal Candidate:
Lead a hardware engineering group (Antenna, RF, PCB, Mechanical or electrical.
Hire, train, retain, and grow to meet program needs.
Lead the group technically (technically savvy to review proposals and such from the team, products).
Leading and reviewing proposals.
Overseeing and leading hardware engineering from a schedule/program perspective.
Prepare technical roadmap and help to execute that
Engage to ensure tools for the org are appropriate over time, to stay current. Essential Functions:
Create vision, strategy, and execute against the plan to help build a best-in-class Engineering team
Coordinate all hardware engineering support (personnel, lab resources, tools) required to perform on all programs and product developments within the business area. Closely track engineering demand and ensure the team is right-sized, properly skilled, and equipped.
Direct engineering program technical, schedule and cost performance for projects with Hardware Engineering scope to include proposal reviews and approval and engineering program reviews and review/oversight of key technical decisions
Provide mentorship and growth opportunities for engineering and management staff within the organization
Build a platform for creativity and engineering innovation that is closely aligned and informed by business strategy and technology/product roadmaps
Provide thought leadership to define the next generation systems
Hire, attract, retain and grow top talent, creating a cohesive culture that fosters innovation, execution, transparency and collaboration
Ensure allocation of resources is aligned with business priorities and identify solutions for the optimal utilization of resources
Support execution and performance to the Sector Annual Operating Plan
Serve as a hands-on engineering leader, who easily gains the respect of senior and junior engineers
Contribute to new business pursuits by growing cross-functional relationships in new business development and across business areas
Technical training of the organization and advancement of the state-of-the-art technology through appropriate industry interaction and continued education of technical staff
Partner and work very closely with the Engineering Leadership staff, Business Development and Program Management to ensure strategy alignment, execution of projects and cross-team collaboration to jointly achieve the sector objectives

Review and approve cost estimates and schedules for programs and proposals with Hardware Engineering scope
Manage hardware engineering content on programs and IRADs to meet technical performance requirements, project budgets and schedules
Active US Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one, TS/SCI is preferred. Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related (preferred areas of study include Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering (RF and antenna helpful) experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience. Preferred Additional Skills:

Deep experience in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering and prior work experience within the Defense industry
Experience and demonstrated competence in technical leadership (project engineer or other technical lead) for large complex programs
Experience managing the engineering content of large DoD proposals and/or new business pursuits
Experience in system level development, requirements definition, analysis, integration and risk mitigation for large communications systems
Deep experience with Earned Value management (EVMS), metrics, and data driven decisions
Demonstrated problem solving and technical/programmatic judgment
Strong team player with experience managing highly technical teams
Strong sense of ownership

Experience leading development and production of wireless communication systems and associated building blocks (e.g. antennas, RF electronics, mechanical design, CCA/PCB design, interconnect, Mechanical and Electrical CAD) for line of sight and satellite applications
Experience developing and/or leading embedded software engineering projects
Experience developing and/or leading analog and digital hardware projects
Experience leading cross functional discipline engineering teams
Experience providing compelling technological briefings to executive level stakeholders
Experience managing multiple layers of management
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers and teammates
