Summary:
The Overnight Assistant Director of Housing provides after-hours leadership, supervision, and
operational support for residential programs serving individuals with developmental disabilities.
This position ensures consistent overnight service quality, safety, and staff support across all
housing sites. The ideal candidate will be proactive, dependable, and experienced in residential
or community-based services. This role plays a critical part in crisis response, overnight
documentation oversight, and continuity of care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide overnight leadership and supervision to House Leads, and Direct Support
Professionals (DSPs) across multiple residential sites via overnight meetings and touch
bases.
• Ensure a safe, person-centered, and trauma-informed environment for individuals receiving
overnight supervision.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and incidents during overnight hours, including medical,
behavioral, or environmental concerns; provide direct support or guidance as needed.
• Assist with coverage as needed.
• Conduct unannounced site visits during overnight hours to monitor service delivery, staff
performance, and home conditions.
• Support compliance with all Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD), state,
county, and internal policies and procedures during overnight operations.
• Review and ensure accurate and timely completion of overnight documentation, including
logs, incident reports, and medication records.
• Assist in maintaining staff schedules and coordinating overnight shift coverage as needed.
• Facilitate communication between overnight and daytime teams to ensure continuity of
care and proper follow-up.
• Support ongoing staff development by providing coaching, feedback, and training
reinforcement during overnight hours.
• Assist with onboarding and training of new overnight staff.
• Act as an advocate for the overnight workforce, helping to identify challenges and
recommend solutions to leadership.
• Maintain a professional and calm demeanor while working independently during overnight
hours.
• Ensure individuals engage in safe and supportive nighttime routines in accordance with their
Person-Centered Plans.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational needs.
• Maintains 25-30 billable hours per week per business demands.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the developmental disabilities field, including 1-2 years
in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Experience working in residential or supported living settings required.
• Strong knowledge of DODD rules, Medicaid waiver requirements, and best practices in
overnight residential care.
• Demonstrated ability to manage emergencies and make sound decisions independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• CPR, First Aid, and all DODD-mandated trainings (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Valid driver's license with fewer than six (6) points and reliable transportation.
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position directly supervises overnight staff across assigned sites. Responsibilities include:
• Assigning and reviewing overnight duties
• Monitoring compliance with care protocols, documentation, and reporting
• Providing coaching, feedback, and performance input to leadership
• Participating in hiring and training of overnight staff
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to remain awake and alert throughout overnight shifts.
• Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, and assist individuals with mobility needs.
• Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs and physically assist individuals as needed.
• Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations, including providing physical support or
evacuation assistance.
Environmental Conditions:
• Work may take place in various residential settings with differing levels of cleanliness, noise,
and temperature.
• Exposure to bodily fluids, anti-social behavior, or potentially aggressive behavior is possible.
• Must be able to tolerate moderate stress and maintain professionalism in varied
circumstances.
