Job Description

We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead the development of cutting-edge electronics for communications, power, and signal management systems associated with small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS). This role will focus on solving complex electrical engineering problems, designing PCB assemblies, and collaborating across teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The position involves working on projects for the Department of Defense, and U.S. citizenship is required.

Key responsibilities include:

Conceptualizing, designing (schematic and layout), and testing PCBAs for UAS payloads and vehicles.

Troubleshooting complex electrical issues using bench-top equipment and custom fixtures of your own design.

Collaborating with mechanical and firmware engineers in an inter-departmental environment.

Potential Duties & Responsibilities:

Utilizing development kits and breadboard prototypes to create test platforms.

Developing schematics and layouts involving microcontrollers, voltage regulators, and translators using Altium Designer.

Designing printed circuit boards for high-speed digital and RF circuitry using Altium Designer.

Addressing issues and challenges related to circuitry for UAS components and systems.

Coordinating with PCB vendors to ensure accurate manufacturing processes.

Preparing for and participating in design reviews and group meetings.

Testing PCBs and other electrical circuits related to UAS systems.

Analyzing and troubleshooting electrical issues using both custom and off-the-shelf test fixtures.

Proficiency in addressing EMI/EMC, ESD, high-speed signal integrity, transient voltage other complex electrical issues.

Working closely with firmware, software, and mechanical engineers to design circuit boards.

Leading, mentoring, and directing EE interns to complete tasks

Regular onsite meetings and team interactions.

Engaging in ad-hoc and weekly design meetings to ensure project timelines are met.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum of 8 years of experience in Electrical Engineering.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

Comprehensive understanding of electromechanical systems and general aircraft systems (flight, communications, power management, etc.).

Knowledge of MEMS sensors for motion detection.

Proficient in handling PCB techniques and ESD-sensitive devices.

Strong principles of electrical design within a constrained design space.

Experience with digital integrated circuits, including DC, analog, digital, medium power, and low power signal design practices.

Skilled in using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, RF network analyzers, RF spectrum analyzers, multimeters, etc.

Knowledge of basic RF design principles.

Basic soldering skills and familiarity with IPC standards and PCB handling techniques.

Understanding of low-speed and high-speed video and communication protocols and physical interfaces, including USB, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet, RS232, LVDS, PCIE and MIPI CSI.

Proficiency in schematic design and layout using Altium Designer, with an emphasis on high current DC, embedded system, and mixed signal design practices.

Experience with robotics is preferred.

A passion for tinkering, personal tech projects, or hobbyist work is highly preferred.

Must work on-site.

Work Environment:

Primarily working in an office space with occasional work in a lab and test facility environment.

May require lifting of heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
