Position Overview
The Director of Accounting is a senior leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization's accounting operations. This includes financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, audits, compliance, and ensuring the integrity of financial data. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with deep technical expertise in accounting and finance, exceptional leadership capabilities, and a track record of driving operational excellence. Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all accounting operations including A/R, A/P, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting with a team of seven.
Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
Oversee the preparation of GAAP-compliant financial statements.
Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure compliance and safeguard company assets.
Coordinate with external auditors and manage annual audit processes.
Support the development and analysis of budgets and forecasts.
Serve as a key financial advisor to executive leadership, providing insights and recommendations based on financial analysis.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Lead and develop a high-performing accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Administer the company’s ERP and budgeting system, NetSuite.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred.
10+ years of accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
Experience managing audits and working with external auditors.
Proven leadership and team development skills.
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational abilities.
Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle).
Preferred Experience
Experience in Transportation & Logistics preferred.
Exposure to mergers & acquisitions.
Experience with NetSuite.
Experience with high-volume B2B transactions.
Multi-entity accounting experience a plus.
