Position Summary
The Dementia Laboratory in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Indiana University is seeking an outstanding candidate for a postdoctoral position. The selected individual will participate in research focused on the molecular mechanisms of neurodegeneration in diseases caused by TDP -43 misfolding. The lab will also continue exploring TDP -43 in its hybrid form as associated with annexin A11. These research projects are funded by the NINDS and will be carried out under the direction of Drs. Kathy L. Newell and Laura Cracco. The studies will be carried out using methodologies of proteomics and genetics. Protein extraction from the brain tissue of individuals with frontotemporal dementias, TDP -43 characterization by biochemical methods and transmission electron microscopy will take place in parallel with neuropathological and structural studies. The Dementia Laboratory has active collaborations with national and international laboratories including the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge, UK) and ICGEB (Trieste, Italy). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, with the potential for publication in high impact factor journals.
