Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of South Carolinians? As a Development Underwriter with SC Housing, you will play a vital role in advancing our mission to provide safe and affordable housing across the state.
As part of our Multifamily Development team, you will work independently under the guidance of the Financial Management Manager, ensuring funding decisions align with federal and state guidelines. Your expertise in financial analysis and underwriting will drive strategic investments, helping to create and sustain affordable housing communities throughout South Carolina.
What will you do?
SC Housing’s Multifamily Development Division administers a diverse portfolio of housing programs, including Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC), HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), SC Housing Trust Fund (SCHTF), National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF), Small Rental Development Program (SRDP), and Multifamily Tax-Exempt Bonds.
We are seeking a financial underwriter to perform underwriting and financial analysis reviews of multifamily housing proposals seeking assistance. In this position, you will:
Conduct underwriting and financial analysis of multifamily housing proposals seeking funding.
Develop and maintain financial models to assess project feasibility and funding awards.
Contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines that shape funding decisions.
Utilize database software to manage historical data and program documentation.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Agency Minimum Qualifications: *
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or a related field.
Three (3) years of full-time experience in accounting, auditing, finance, commercial loan underwriting, or a related area.
* Candidates must specifically meet the Agency Minimum Requirements or an equivalent combination of education and experience to be considered for this position.
Additional Requirements:
Strong financial analysis and underwriting skills, with the ability to assess complex rental housing developments
Excellent problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in adapting to different circumstances
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including spreadsheet design and formula creation
Must be able to lift and carry files, books, and reports weighing up to 20 lbs. Must be able to perform filing, desk work, and operate general office equipment. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged or intermittent periods of time while sharing, gathering, or presenting information to other staff members or external parties. The employee must be able to perform these tasks with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications
Certifications in housing development finance or economic development finance are preferred.
