Under general supervision, performs paraprofessional work in planning, organizing, evaluating, promoting and directing adult programs or services for the County. Work involves coordinating the community's desires with services and programs offered, and providing administrative support and customer service for the library. Employee must exercise initiative and independent judgment in developing programs and performing assigned tasks. Employee must also exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contacts with library patrons.
Reports to Director of Library Services.
Salary offer: $44,997 +/- depending on qualifications
Job Highlights
Plans, develops, and implements special programs, events, and/or branch services for adult library patrons.
Maintains records and statistics on programs of the Library System; prepares and sends appropriate documentation to the Library of Virginia.
Develops and designs booklists, bibliographies, displays and reference guides using all the tools available in the library.
Maintains a specific section of the library collection ensuring books are in Dewey order.
Performs tasks at the circulation desks and/or bookmobile, including checking library materials in and out, registering patrons for a library card, preparing materials to be shelved, and maintaining records and tabulations; collects materials from book depository; processes library accounts.
Inspects returned books and other materials for damage.
Performs readers' advisory and reference services to include the use of reference tools, computers, and technology.
Prepares carts for shelving and regularly shelves books and reads shelves.
Answers phone, opens and closes the library on a rotating shift, and provides technical assistance to patrons using library computers, printers, copiers, and other public equipment.
Trains and oversees volunteers as they are available.
May operate County vehicle to retrieve and distribute interoffice mail, deposit monies, and transport library materials and supplies between County libraries.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate's degree in education, social science or related field.
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in public library work.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
