Helena College is seeking qualified applicants who wish to become part of a dynamic and creative team for a full-time position as a RN Simulation/Lab Manager.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) Simulation/Lab Manager leads and manages simulation- based education across the nursing curriculum, reporting to the Director of Nursing. This 12-month, 40 hrs./week, benefited position provides coordination and management of the clinical nursing lab environment necessary to support optimal student learning. Responsibilities include managing the operations of the simulation and skills labs, maintaining equipment and supplies—including high- and mid-fidelity manikins, static manikins, task trainers, and VR simulation tools—and ensuring the safe, effective use of all simulation technologies. The RN simulation lab manager will assure effective, efficient operation of the nursing labs, assess and assist in meeting program and student needs, and oversee the operation of all high-fidelity technology to ensure safe and effective use of simulation equipment.

• Creates, develops, and implements meaningful simulated learning experiences, clinical skills practice labs, skill competency testing sessions, simulated med-surg and other clinical experiences to augment clinical experiences, and other faculty-identified nursing lab learning experiences for all nursing students.

•Coordinates the upgrading, warranties, and maintenance of all nursing lab equipment and maintains inventory of durables.

Works directly with Director of Nursing to stay within budget.

Reviews software and equipment for necessary updates in collaboration with the college IT department.•Assures equipment, manikins, task trainers are functioning properly, are cleaned, and stored properly between use to prolong life expectancy.

•Troubleshoots technical issues and works directly with manufacturers to resolve any issues.

•Cleans, drains fluids from manikins and task trainer arms prior to storage at semester end.• Collaborates with faculty to integrate simulation experiences into the nursing curriculum and facilitates debriefing sessions after simulation activities.

• Routinely updates and refines simulation scenarios to maintain content accuracy and relevance. Serves as a resource for the faculty using simulation in classroom activities.

• Monitors lab supplies (consumables), prepares supply order ‘cart’ in GrizMart using correct index and staying within budget.

• Keeps all nursing lab rooms stocked and organized

• Works directly with nursing lab instructors in preparing lab supply orders for upcoming semester• Assists the Director of Nursing

• In preparing accurate, current records and reports as required by the college and approval/accrediting organizations;

• To modify and develop procedures specific to the simulation lab;

• In identifying ways to expand simulation program usage in the curriculum; and

• In maintaining/updating the Nursing Information page on the Canvas LMS.• Job duty may include teaching nursing skills lab(s) not to exceed six credits per semester.

• Management of SSL

• Provides orientation to simulation skills lab (SSL) for students and new faculty.

• Resolves student and faculty concerns related to the SSL.

• Orients clinical resource RNs (CRRNs) and instructors in Sim lab procedures, use of materials, and operation of simulation lab equipment.

• Ensures students and clinical faculty meet and maintain clinical agency clearance requirements (CPR, vaccinations, clinical paperwork).

• Creates semester schedule of all nursing simulations and lab activities and includes updates and changes across the semester.

• Promotes the nursing program by facilitating recruiting events on campus highlighting nursing simulation. (Helena Wins, HOSA events, Bryant school events).

Supervises nursing work-study position (if applicable)

Minimum Qualifications

• Unencumbered license to practice in the State of Montana as a RN.

• A minimum of an associate’s degree in nursing (ADN).

• Minimum of two (2) years work experience as a registered nurse within acute care settings to be able to replicate acute medical-surgical unit care, critical care, and long-term care situations across the lifespan.

• Must be able to work flexible hours to meet lab, simulation, and event needs.

Preferred

• BSN or MSN

• Prior simulation nursing lab experience

• Teaching experience in two-year college

• Certified BLS trainer

Additional Information

Compensation Title: Registered Nurse/Clinic Manager

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year. Hours and schedule may vary depending on the needs of the program.

Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
