Central Prison Behavioral Health Director

Description of Work

The Central Prison (CP) Behavioral Health Director position is located at Central Prison in Raleigh, NC, and reports to the Hospital Director of Central Prison’s healthcare complex and indirectly to the Behavioral Health Clinical Services Section Chief. The CP Behavioral Health Director oversees behavioral health supervisory staff who are responsible for the overall coordination, program management and supervision of behavioral health staff and programming at the facility.The CP Behavioral Health Director directs a comprehensive psychological program involving inpatient psychological services, specialized behavioral health programs, and outpatient treatment within Central Prison. The position plans, directs and implements the program(s); submits clinical program plans and objectives to the agency management team based on present and future requirements. In addition, the position clinically and/or administratively supervises psychologists, clinical social workers, clinical mental health counselors, and other support staff. The CP Behavioral Health Director provides expert psychological diagnosis and treatment through consultation, supervision of complex problem cases, and direct service. Duties may also include applied research, program development, and professional development of staff. The greater portion of time is spent in the management functional areas.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Eligibility for licensure in North Carolina under the provisions of the NC Psychology Practice Act (G.S. 90-270) and three years of post- doctoral psychological experience, one of which must have been in coordinating/supervising a psychological services program which included advance clinical treatment, consultation, training and research.

They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
