Description

Job Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Tool & Die Manager to lead and oversee our tool and die operations. This role requires a detail-oriented, strategic thinker with expertise in tool and die manufacturing processes, as well as strong leadership and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in punch press operations and tooling, in addition to strong knowledge of die design, fabrication, and maintenance. As a Tool & Die Manager, you will be responsible for managing the design, development, maintenance, and repair of tooling and dies used in the production of high-quality parts and components.

You will play a crucial role in ensuring that all tooling and die systems are efficient, cost-effective, and meet production timelines while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management:

Lead and manage a team of toolmakers, diemakers, engineers, and technicians.

Provide training, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure continuous team development.

Coordinate work schedules, allocate resources, and monitor workloads to meet production goals.

Tool & Die Development:

Oversee the design, fabrication, and maintenance of dies, molds, and tooling for manufacturing processes, with a strong focus on punch press tooling and operations.

Collaborate with engineering and production teams to develop new tooling solutions for current and upcoming projects.

Ensure that tooling is designed for optimal performance, efficiency, and safety, particularly in relation to punch press applications.

Punch Press Operations:

Demonstrate proficiency in the setup, operation, and troubleshooting of punch presses and related tooling.

Oversee the maintenance and repair of punch presses to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.

Work with the production team to optimize punch press processes, ensuring the highest quality standards are met.

Maintenance & Repairs:

Ensure the timely maintenance, repair, and upgrading of tooling and dies, including punch presses, to minimize downtime and production delays.

Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to extend the life of tooling, dies, and punch presses.

Process Optimization:

Identify opportunities to improve tool and die processes, including punch press operations, to increase productivity and reduce waste.

Implement lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement initiatives.

Quality Control & Compliance:

Ensure all tooling and die systems, including punch press tooling, meet or exceed product specifications and quality standards.

Work closely with quality control teams to ensure that finished products meet stringent quality requirements.

Stay current on industry standards and regulations, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental guidelines.

Cost Management:

Monitor tooling and punch press budgets, track costs, and implement cost-saving strategies without compromising quality.

Evaluate and select vendors for tooling materials, punch press machinery, and services, ensuring cost-effectiveness.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Skills & Competencies:

Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams and collaborate cross-functionally.

Advanced problem-solving skills, with a focus on process improvement and optimization.

Strong knowledge of safety standards, compliance requirements, and best practices in manufacturing.

Proficient in using CAD/CAM software, ERP systems, and other relevant tools.

Expertise in punch press operations, including tool setup, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to [insert weight].

Comfort with working in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to noise, machinery, and various materials.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. A technical degree or certification in toolmaking, industrial engineering, or related field is preferred.

Experience:

At least 5–7 years of experience in tool and die making, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.

Extensive hands-on experience in the design, construction, and repair of tooling and dies for manufacturing, with a strong focus on punch press operations.

Proven experience with punch press setup, operation, and troubleshooting.
