Description
The Technology Manager manages the library system's computer hardware, software, media, maker space technologies and equipment, and telecommunications technology; scans the current technology landscape to recommend innovative approaches to technology; trains and informs staff in related areas as required.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as a key member of management; understands the organization, financials, industry/sector, customers, and strategy.
Supervises employees, provides direction, coaches, trains and develops, hires, and manages performance to organization goals and expectations.
Manages budgets and resources effectively and efficiently; knows and understands organization’s financial position.
Manages vendors and outside service providers effectively; sets expectations and holds them accountable.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Contracts and Negotiations
Initiates hardware, software, and contract services purchase orders.
Recommends and selects hardware and software; establishes hardware and software minimum required specifications for hardware and software.
Works with hardware, software, and telecommunications vendors; serves as liaison to CLEVNET library consortium.
Personnel Management
Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates Technology Services Staff.
Oversees the training of library staff in new technology.
Attends staff, management, supervisor, trustee meetings.
Project Management
Plans and budgets for new technology; assists the Director in long range planning of technology systems that will meet changing and future library and patron needs.
Recommends and coordinates implementation of technology enhancements within library system in consultation with other managers and administrators.
Oversees the planning, implementation, and ongoing management of the library’s maker space, including evaluating emerging technologies, acquiring appropriate equipment, developing user-centered programming, and ensuring safe and effective use by staff and patrons.
Chairs the library’s AI Committee, leading strategic discussions and initiatives related to the evaluation, adoption, and ethical implementation of artificial intelligence tools and services to enhance library operations, patron engagement, and staff support.
Records Management
Managing and overseeing all aspects of data collection and reporting for the organization, utilizing various platforms.
Technology Infrastructure Support
Maintains hardware and software inventory records; establishes hardware and software replacement schedules.
Sets up and installs both new and traditional IT systems as well as maker space hardware and software; troubleshoots network, telecommunications. hardware and software problems
Maintains network security such as access control, server backup, and power protection.
Sets network and systems policies and procedures.
Attends Training and continuing education programs to keep informed of developments and current technology as they relate to computers and networking libraries.
Manages library system e-mail access and recommends improvements.
Adds and removes staff access to various software and systems.
Collaborates across departments with the STEAM Initiatives Manager and Director of Facilities to oversee the selection, implementation, and ongoing support of makerspace technologies including 3D printers, CNC machines, long-arm quilting machines, laser cutters, and other tools commonly used in creative and educational library programming.
Collaborates across departments with the STEAM Initiatives Manager and Director of Facilities to develop and oversee technology offerings for the library’s teen spaces, ensuring access to engaging, age-appropriate, games, tools, and resources that support learning, creativity, and digital literacy among teen patrons.
Qualifications
Minimum Education & Experience Required
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
Certifications or licensure: None.
Years of relevant experience: 5 or more years is preferred.
Years of experience supervising: 2 or more years is preferred.
A valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and reliable personal transportation is required.
Pre-employment drug screening is required.
Criminal background and education verification checks are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, applications software, networking and telecommunications.
Knowledge of MS SharePoint platform.
Knowledge of usability best practices.
Skill in managing Windows-based servers.
Ability to evaluate, select, and implement maker space tools and technologies aligned with staff and patron needs and program goals.
Ability to implement AI solutions that enhance patron experience, operational efficiency, and staff support.
Ability to use office productivity and communications software applications in a networked environment.
Ability to use a computer and job-related software or systems applicable to the essential functions of the job, which may include, but not be limited to email/calendar software, internet/intranet browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, database software, and various systems of software used by the Library.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions - Moderate
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices, which includes the need for general safe workplace practices with office equipment and computers, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
Employee may be exposed to hot and cold weather conditions to perform tasks, or warmer or cooler temperatures within Library buildings.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
This position is performed in an office setting although off-site meetings in various settings occur.
Lifting moderate objects of 50 pounds and carrying them distances of 25 feet is required.
Moving moderate objects of 50 pounds and pushing them distances of 25 feet is required.
May require working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Frequent local travel by library vehicle/personal automobile is required.
Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Salary Range: $71,965.92-$82,715.36
