Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol

Report In Location - 740 East 17Th Avenue, Columbus, 43211

Hours Worked\: 12\:00 AM to 12\:00 AM; Working hours may be 7am - 3pm, 3pm - 11pm, OR 11pm - 7am (depending on seniority bid)

Maintain the security of buildings & grounds of the Ohio State High-way Patrol (OSHP) Training Academy\:

Conduct routine security checks of the premise (e.g., check & inspect doors, windows, fences & gates; secures &/or locks damaged &/or unlocked doors & windows);

Routinely lock or unlock doors & windows at the prescribed times;

Perform safety inspections of equipment for malfunction or safety violation;

Monitor the operation of boilers & the heating, ventilating & air conditioning systems & notifies supervisors &/or maintenance personnel of any problems;

Check for fire, leaks, weather induced damage, correct lighting, building hazards &/or unauthorized persons;

Ensure office & kitchen equipment is in correct on or off mode;

Respond to inquiries by telephone, radio &/or in person & record such actions in the appropriate log;

Screen facility visitors, admitting or denying admission as directed;

Perform variety of miscellaneous tasks (e.g., clean, sweep, mop & wax floors, wash windows, dust furniture, empty waste baskets; perform other related tasks as directed);

Perform routine maintenance on a variety of OSHP Academy equipment;

Participate in seasonal maintenance of lawns, shrubbery, sidewalks, driveways etc.; Pump gas, move equipment, load or unload trucks;

Perform other related duties as required.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT

If assigned responsibility for rendering first aid/C.P.R/Automated External Defibrillator (i.e., AED), applicant must

obtain required certifications by end of probationary period and must maintain valid certifications to continue

employment.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS

May be required to work rotating shifts & weekends. May be exposed to bodily fluids &/or infectious diseases.

This position may be filled by a layoff or certification eligibility list.

This position will be filled in accordance with the bargaining unit agreement if applicable.

This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio

Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123\: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). This

position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.

Background Check Information

A BCI and FBI fingerprint check, a background check, including a polygraph examination, may be required on all selected applicants.

A comparative analysis and/or drug-test may be a requirement of the hiring process.

Position is identified as safety sensitive & is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with DPS 501.24.

Formal education that includes reading, writing & speaking English. Positions making security rounds in vehicle require valid driver's license.
