Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team in Ballston Spa, New York. This long-term contract position offers an exciting opportunity to oversee financial operations for a dynamic nonprofit organization. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in accounting systems, audits, and nonprofit financial management to help ensure the organization’s continued success.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee all aspects of the organization’s accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and county funding requirements.
• Lead the annual financial statement audit process and ensure timely completion of Form 990 and CHAR500 filings.
• Maintain and optimize the organization’s QuickBooks environment for efficient financial reporting.
• Collaborate with the Finance Manager and entry-level staff to develop and implement financial processes and controls.
• Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and financial planning to support organizational goals.
• Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and best practices.
• Provide regular financial updates and reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
• Support the review and reconciliation of historical financial data as needed.
• Contribute to strategic decision-making by providing financial insights and recommendations.• Proven experience as a Controller or similar financial leadership role, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
• Strong knowledge of QuickBooks and other accounting software systems.
• Expertise in preparing and filing Form 990 and CHAR500.
• Familiarity with state and county funding compliance requirements.
• Experience managing annual financial audits and preparing audit reports.
• Proficiency in accounting functions, including AP, AR, and payroll.
• Solid understanding of budget processes and financial forecasting.
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
