Opportunity:

Virtual Service Operations is searching for an expert-level Database Administrator to support customer’s data center in Hampton, Virginia. This role is responsible for maintaining and securing databases, monitoring for threats, managing user access, and supporting database design and optimization. The position involves working with multiple RDBMS platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle), performing scripting, ensuring data integrity through audits, and guiding junior staff. The ideal candidate will have deep experience with database technologies, development methodologies, and both front-end and back-end programming.

This position is responsible for supporting and maintaining database infrastructure with a focus on data extraction and loading, cybersecurity, and system performance. Key duties include setting up and managing cybersecurity measures for database environments, ensuring hardware and software are up to date, authenticating data and user access, and monitoring system performance. The role also involves configuring servers and databases to optimize security posture, performance, redundancy, backup, and restoration, while preserving data integrity and securely handling sensitive information.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems engineering, or a related field, or 10+ years of equivalent experience in database infrastructure support. Proficiency with database queries, design, and languages such as SQL or SQL/PSM is required, along with experience managing Windows and Linux server installations and applying IT security best practices. Strong problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and effective communication skills—both written and oral—are essential for troubleshooting complex issues, training staff, and collaborating with teams.

Preferred qualifications include broad experience or certifications with MS SQL Server and/or Oracle RDBMS, familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker), CI/CD pipelines, and Agile/Scrum methodologies. Experience with Atlassian tools, Microsoft 365, and knowledge of ITSM and ITIL frameworks are also beneficial. The ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance is required.

Telework is available, with occasional on-site presence required in Hampton, VA.

Must be within 50 miles driving distance of Hampton, VA OR willing to relocate there

Must be willing to work onsite occasionally

New hires assigned on this project will be required to undergo and pass drug and alcohol tests per our client's contract requirements

Must be willing and able to undergo a government Public Trust (SF-85) background investigation.
