At VGHS, teachers support students through a holistic approach, academically, socially, and emotionally. We implement phenomena-, place-, project-, and problem-based pedagogical strategies aligned with culturally and linguistically responsive (CLR) practices. These strategies foster inquiry and enable authentic student work, while also offering continuous opportunities for students to connect with the world around them.
Learning happens both in traditional classrooms and through unique experiences within the greater Taos community. We emphasize Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) through our daily Crew class, which provides students and staff with direct opportunities to build strong, meaningful relationships.
VGHS also prioritizes Outdoor Learning, Dual Enrollment opportunities at UNM-Taos, and Work-Based Learning experiences. With small class sizes (no more than 24 students per class) we are able to deepen both academic engagement and relationship building.
Our regenerative approach supports students not only in graduating from high school, but also in developing strong connections to their local community.
