Position Overview:
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager in planning, executing, and delivering energy construction projects. This role ensures coordination between teams, cost control, scheduling, and compliance with safety and quality standards. The APM works closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and client teams to ensure smooth project execution in power plants, substations, solar farms, wind farms, oil and gas facilities, and transmission projects.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Coordination and Support
Assist in developing project plans, schedules, and milestones to ensure timely execution.
Support the Project Manager in coordinating with engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
Monitor project progress and help in resolving issues that may cause delays.
Assist in preparing meeting agendas, progress reports, and stakeholder presentations.
2. Budget and Cost Management
Help track and control project costs, budgets, and forecasts to prevent overruns.
Assist in reviewing invoices, purchase orders, and vendor contracts for cost accuracy.
Work with finance teams to ensure proper billing, invoicing, and contract payments.
3. Safety and Compliance
Ensure project activities comply with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, FERC, and local safety regulations.
Work with safety teams to ensure compliance with job site safety plans.
Assist in reviewing and maintaining permits, licenses, and regulatory approvals.
4. Stakeholder Communication and Client Relations
Support the Project Manager in communicating with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
Prepare project status reports, risk assessments, and documentation.
Help maintain client satisfaction by ensuring deliverables align with contract requirements.
5. Resource and Team Coordination
Assist in managing construction crews, subcontractors, and consultants.
Ensure adequate labor, materials, and equipment are available for smooth project execution.
Work with procurement teams to coordinate material deliveries and inventory control.
6. Quality Control and Risk Management
Work with QA/QC teams to ensure adherence to quality control procedures.
Assist in monitoring construction methods, material quality, and workmanship.
Identify potential project risks and assist in implementing risk mitigation strategies.
7. Scheduling and Documentation
Assist in creating and updating project schedules using Primavera P6, MS Project, or Procore.
Maintain accurate project documentation, change orders, and RFI logs.
Track and document progress updates, field reports, and contractor performance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in project management or construction coordination in the energy sector.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field.
Certifications:
Project Management Professional (PMP) - preferred.
OSHA 30 - mandatory.
Primavera P6, MS Project, or Procore Certification - beneficial.
Skills:
Knowledge of energy infrastructure, electrical/mechanical systems, and EPC project execution.
Strong skills in budgeting, scheduling, and contract administration.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure construction environment.
Proficiency in project management software and strong analytical problem-solving skills.
