Summary:
This position is responsible for evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to improve safety, reduce cost, increase production velocity, and develop best practices within the production process. Ensure that the right materials, processes, procedures, and equipment is used to produce welds to a given standard and customer specification. The Welding Engineer is a key technical role responsible for the implementation and stabilization of welding processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities listed below are not intended to be all-inclusive.
Develop safe welding processes by studying product requirements, researching, designing, modifying, and testing welding methods and equipment, interfacing with equipment suppliers.
Maintain reliable and safe welding systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers.
Develop welding processes to meet product requirements and tests manufacturing methods while developing training and evaluation guideline for assembly technicians.
Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services, following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures, requesting special service when required.
Research and create new methods of welding processes and make recommendations to achieve maximum production capacity and efficiency.
Participate, as needed in cross, functional new product design teams, providing product and process design expertise necessary to ensure manufacturability
Designing and verification of weld fixtures manual/robot welding.
Involved with welding robot programming.
Assist with training welding employees how to properly perform welds and new welding techniques as necessary. Including Steel/Aluminum MIG and TIG processes.
Work with welding auditors when necessary to ensure that we welding to code requirements for standard and custom products.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma or G.E.D. required.
Four (4) year degree as a Welding Engineer or related field required.
Three (3) or more years of experience in a welding engineering role (preferred)
Experience in and working knowledge of industrial welding automation and controls with an emphasis on robotic arc welding and off-line programming and simulation
Certification in a Welding standard such as ASME/AWS-CWI or ASME CWI/E helpful but not required.
In depth understanding of AWS codes D1.1, D1.2, D1.3
LANGUAGE SKILL: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general, Dl business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and general public.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Ability to use personal computers and prefer at least one year of experience with MRP II software, including a general understanding of MRP II philosophy and the relationship between all functional areas of a manufacturing company. CAD experience for tooling design preferably Autodesk Inventor or equivalent modeling software
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must possess basic math skills.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with the variety of situations which occur. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
