Position Summary Description

Performs operating duties, rounds, and checks of assigned auxiliary equipment in the Power Block, FGD, and EPF plant site area systems. Makes the necessary equipment adjustments within his/her control, performs other related work, and assists employees as needed. Helps train employees in their job requirements and duties. Performs light duty mechanical tasks as needed and required. Continues training for next level of Plant Operator.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Additional formal education in math and science preferred. Minimum of two (2) years of prior experience in power plant operations as a Utility Operator or the equivalent. Must complete all required training for Plant Operator I. Successful completion of training may substitute required experience. Must have knowledge of the equipment, systems, processes, procedures, regulations, and operations related to all areas of a modern large coal power plant. Must be able to refer to and understand technical and operating manuals. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively to others verbally and in writing. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Essential Functions

Provides feedback to coworkers, contractors and visitors on both safe and at risk practices.

Participates in safety improvement activities and efforts.

Adequately communicates information regarding equipment conditions and events to Operations personnel during shift changes.

Personally makes visual inspection of assigned equipment.

Lubricates equipment as required.

Maintains work equipment and area in a clean, orderly condition.

Communicates effectively with other plant employees as to equipment operating conditions and other information.

Properly reports abnormal conditions and trends of equipment and takes proper corrective actions.

Performs the necessary operations, properly places in service and removes from service auxiliary and accessory equipment following the prescribed sequence.

Personally observes instrument indications and records data, properly maintains log records, and charts.

Participates in scheduled safety meetings and training classes.

Must be thoroughly competent with the Plant LOTO Procedure.

Personally operates all Plant equipment and systems as trained and instructed.

Takes a proactive approach regarding personal safety, safety of others and complies with all OSHA and SECI safety rules. Must complete all necessary online or classroom safety courses as directed. Must participate in safety briefings and meetings.

Takes a proactive approach regarding environmental rules and regulations governing the operation of the plant. Must complete all necessary online or classroom environmental courses as directed. Required to immediately report any, and all, environmental reportable incidents.

Ability to drive vehicles and mobile equipment.

Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.

Working Conditions

While working in certain areas of the plant there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment. Must be able to follow established protective measures including, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Required to work overtime hours upon request. Required to work various schedules including a rotating shift schedule and weekends. Required to work in areas of high noise, dusty conditions, and extreme temperatures. Work at heights over 250 feet and in confined areas. Required to perform outside duties under adverse weather conditions. Must be able to ascend and descend stationary and portable ladders. Must be able to lift materials up to 60 pounds. Required to perform job tasks while wearing protective clothing, air purified respirators, and self-contained breathing apparatus. Required to use emergency response equipment in emergencies and for training. Required to work with and around chemicals. Manual labor is required. Expected to participate in plant training, as required.
