JOB TITLE: CNC Lathe Programmer
DEPARTMENT: Manufacturing Engineering
REPORTS TO: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The ability to set up, plan and execute complete machining operations working from engineering drawings to produce parts on CNC Lathes and Swiss Screw machines. Responsible for knowledge required to utilize CAM programs for CNC Lathes and Swiss Screw machines.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• High School or GED Diploma required or Certification in related field.
• 3-5 years of experience with CNC programming, and operating a CNC lathe with the ability to do set-ups.
• Experience programming in Feature CAM or Part Maker.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks or SolidEdge.
• Must have a proficient understanding of G-code and M-code programming.
• Experience setting up, troubleshooting CNC machines, and proving out programs. This includes knowledge of tooling, feeds and speeds, offsets, and the ability to make program changes.
• Able to demonstrate good manufacturing practices.
• Strong mathematical skills and blueprint with GD&T reading capabilities
• Able to read instrumentation and gauges for measurement purposes
DESCRIPTION OF JOB DUTIES:
• Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Develop CNC programs using Feature CAM or Part Maker based on engineering drawings and models.
• Configure tools and ensure efficient production.
• Analyze drawings, blueprints, and design data to calculate correct part dimensions for machines, tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates.
• Monitor output and proper operation of mechanical equipment.
• Make mechanical and/or program adjustments to ensure - parts meet quantity and quality requirements.
• Use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, fixtures, and gauges to check work.
• Read instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure part dimensions within tenths.
• Communicate recommendations to modify processes to improve productivity and quality.
• Detect errors or irregularities, make corrections, and ensure an audit trail for all program changes.
