Job Summary

The Student Success Coach reports to the Executive Director of TRIO Programs and will provide administrative support for the department. The Student Success Coach will support students enrolled in the TRIO Student Support Services program at Harris-Stowe State University. The Coach will assist department staff with program implementation, events, and activities to meet the goals and objectives of the TRIO grant. This position requires working collaboratively with university departments and academic units. The perfect candidate for this role should possess experience working with first-generation students and constituents from diverse backgrounds.

Essential Functions

Performs responsibilities consistent with the goals and objectives of the program.

Completes the onboarding and communication campaigns with new program participants

Present to prospective students, faculty, staff, and advisors, explaining program eligibility guidelines and goals to obtain referrals.

Plans, schedules, and drives college vehicles to transport students to college visits and venues that expose participants to transfer institutions and cultural activities.

Completes needs assessment and provides academic planning with the caseload: schedule follow-ups, referrals, and monitoring of academic progress toward graduation completion.

Assists participants with the appropriate selection of courses and the registration process

Assists students with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and interprets financial award letters for participants.

Prepares and documents individual academic plans related to Satisfactory Academic Progress

Maintains records of information on participants, including program participation, academic plans, SAP appeals, and educational goal achievement

Contribute efforts and ideas toward student recruitment and retention

Contribute to the Annual Performance Report and grant renewal application

Attend professional development meetings, conferences, and workshops approved by the Executive Director

Minimum Education and Experience

A bachelor's degree is required in education, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred.

2-3 years of experience working with underrepresented student populations preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Analyze survey results to determine the effectiveness of programming

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Experience with data collection, management, and report generation

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal skills

Proficient use of various computer applications, databases, Microsoft Excel, and social media outlets is required.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body

Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.

Working Conditions and Environment

Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment

Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
