As part of the Display and Optics organization in Reality Labs, you will be responsible for the research and development of core optical modules for future products.

This is an opportunity to be part of a team of some of the best engineers, scientists, and leaders working at the forefront of display technology.

The focus of this position is on optical design of complex devices, coming up with and evaluating new device architectures, working with cross-functional partners to develop prototypes, and helping to define the hardware roadmap of AR displays.

Responsibilities:

Research Scientist, Optical Device Modeling Responsibilities:

Design and develop optical modules for future near-eye displays.

Build predictive optical models, validate designs and models with metrology data to close the loop between simulations and measurements.

Support design validation, lab characterization, and failure analysis of optical modules and systems.

Develop custom simulation workflows for automating the design and optimization of optical devices.

Lead the development of multiphysics simulation and analysis tools for system-level modeling of AR displays.

Research and development of emerging concepts in display, illumination, and imaging-optics technology domains.

Qualification and experience:

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD degree in the field of Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.

Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta

Experience with one or more of the following optics domains: nanophotonics, imaging optics, lens design, illumination, radiometry and photometry, geometric or physical optics, projector design.

Experience using scripting languages and data analysis tools such as Python, JMP, or MATLAB.

Experience working with optical design software such as Meep, Lumerical, LightTools, Zemax, Code V, FRED, or similar.

Preferred:

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience developing electromagnetic simulation tools for photonics applications.

Experience with display technologies such as LEDs and OLEDs.

Experience in developing optical modules or systems in multidisciplinary environments, including setting specifications, determining test methods, and overall module and system integration.

Experience with optical metrology and characterization techniques.

Process development and failure analysis experience for optical components and modules such as cameras, sensors, or illumination/projector systems.

Experience with multiple full life-cycle product launches.
