Objectives
This is an unclassified position that serves at the pleasure of the Court. Under the general direction of the Court Administrator, the Co-parent Coach (CPC) is responsible for duties to offer structured support to parents navigating high-conflict dynamics during a pending divorce or custody case involving parental rights and responsibilities or upon a post-decree motion filing about parental rights and responsibilities. Rooted in the International Coaching Federation (ICF) core competencies, the CPC coaching program offers the opportunity to apply professional experience in a practical, solution-focused environment, where progress is measured in stress reduction and positive behavioral change by the parents. The CPC is responsible for intake meetings of the parents. The CPC meets with parents individually or jointly to support communication, reduce reactivity, and foster personal responsibility in co-parenting relationships. It would be the objective of the CPC to prepare documentation about the sessions, regarding parental goals, areas of disagreement, next steps, outline/draft proposed agreements, summaries, correspondence, etc.
Job Standards
Bachelor’s Degree or similar in the counseling, social work, therapeutic, mediation, or legal field, or related field plus two (2) years related work experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Individual must be trained in ICF coaching or be willing to complete training through the program. Individual must demonstrate skill in conflict resolution or other high-stakes communication. Individual needs to have familiarity with trauma-informed practices and ability to remain a steady presence during emotional distress. Having a growth mindset and openness to supervision, learning, and feedback are needed. Background in drafting proposed documents, written, professional communications, spreadsheets, as well as communicating verbally in an effective and professional manner, is helpful. Individual must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
Essential Functions
Facilitate independently intake sessions for parents;
Assess whether joint sessions are appropriate or if individual sessions are best;
Facilitate independently individual and joint co-parent coaching sessions;
Prevent sessions from becoming a space for criticism or negativity with ability to reframe to focus on growth and impact;
Ensure coaching remains distinct from therapy, mediation, legal advice, or evaluation;
Prepare and maintain detailed and organized documentation from the CPC sessions about what transpired and what is agreed as goals, next steps, or formal agreements regarding parenting;
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
Submit documentation in a prompt, accurate, and professional manner;
Work with members of the public from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and heritages;
Manage scheduling and preparation to be consistently present and effective;
Collaborate with court staff and team members while maintaining coaching ethics and role clarity;
Safely operates a motor vehicle in both normal and inclement weather, as well as during daytime and nighttime conditions;
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance;
May work overtime and outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required; and
Performs other duties as assigned.
