Job Responsibilities

Plan and direct comprehensive public awareness programs (PAP), community outreach program for the agency, in the areas of prevention and public awareness, targeting high-risk populations.

Review, revise, and develop policy and procedures and financial records regarding PAP.

Supervise the Sergeant assigned to community outreach programs and conduct on-site monitoring of such programs/services.

Coordinate and supervise operation behind bars providing technical assistance and on-site evaluation in their development of programs and services in the areas of delinquency, crime prevention and early intervention.

Represent agency on task forces relative to community-based strategies for crime control, safe schools and neighborhoods.

Maintain all PAP data in the automated system for scheduling, presentations, & retention of statistical information.

Serve as liaison on state and local Levels concerning SCDC's goal in promoting collaborative efforts with schools and communities in crime prevention.

Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources.)

Six (6) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include two (2) years of supervisory experience.

A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 year).

Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within Six (6) months of entry into the position.
