This is a full-time position and receives all benefits afforded to regular employees.
Summary: The purpose of this classification is to provide engineering technical support and project management support to the Assistant County Engineer/Lead Project Manager for implementation of county civil engineering projects to ensure the county’s ability to meet future infrastructure needs, to include technical review of consultant roadway and drainage plans, private development plans and enforcement of applicable codes/ordinances; as well as assistance with project management and delivery activities.
Essential Job Functions: The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
In collaboration with the Assistant County Engineer, coordinates daily work activities; organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work to junior staff; monitors status of work in progress and reviews completed work; confers with assigned staff, assists with complex/problem situations, and provides technical expertise to the County Engineer and Engineering Services division managers.
Ensures division compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
Consults with County Engineer and Assistant County Engineer to review division operations/activities, review/resolve problems, receive advice/direction, and provide recommendations; assists management team with assigned projects and tasks; coordinates with consulting engineers as appropriate.
Provides information and technical assistance concerning county infrastructure projects, roadway/drainage issues, and other issues; responds to questions, concerns, or complaints; investigates problems/complaints and initiates problem resolution.
Provides engineering and technical assistance to other county departments and divisions; such as Public Works, Recreation and Parks, and Facilities Maintenance.
Participates in long term planning to ensure the ability of the county’s infrastructure to handle future growth. This includes providing input, guidance, and review of master plans pertaining to transportation, stormwater management, coastal resilience, and alignment with the County’s strategic plan, goals, and objectives.
Reviews and approves engineering submittals; reviews development plans for compliance with all county guidelines; develops and reviews in-house designs and calculations for small scale road, sidewalk/trail, and drainage projects.
Review of sediment erosion control plans and land disturbance activity permitting plans.
Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and standards; maintains an awareness of new technologies, methods, materials, practices, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.

Qualifications & Benefits
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving civil engineering and supervision; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia Engineer-in-Training Certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Five (5) years of previous experience and/or training involving civil engineering
Georgia Professional Engineer (PE) license
GSWCC Level II Certification
