Job Summary:
The Bike Mechanic is responsible for issuing, maintaining, and repairing rental bicycles to ensure guest satisfaction and equipment safety. This role combines excellent customer service with strong mechanical skills to provide well-fitting, high-performing bikes while supporting shop operations in a fast-paced mountain resort environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Issue proper and well-fitting rental equipment to guests, adjusting settings per manufacturer specifications.
Inspect bicycles for damage, wear, or malfunction, ensuring compatibility and safety standards.
Perform repairs, maintenance, and tuning of bike components (brakes, gears, wheels, suspension, tires, chains, etc.).
Assemble new bicycles and diagnose mechanical issues, providing accurate repair estimates.
Process returned equipment, storing it appropriately, and maintaining an organized, clean, and safe workspace.
Answer guest questions about rental procedures, resort operations, and technical bike details.
Communicate clearly with customers about service options, timelines, and equipment use.
Keep records of services performed, parts used, and assist with inventory management and restocking.
Support cross-departmental tasks, including assisting sales staff with technical expertise.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Indoor/outdoor shop setting involving physical labor and handling tools.
Fast-paced, requiring prolonged standing and multitasking.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Excellent customer service and clear communication skills.
Strong knowledge of bike components, brands, and tools, with the ability to identify and resolve mechanical issues independently.
Prior experience as a bike mechanic or in a similar mechanical repair role (preferred).
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift weights up to 50 lbs. overhead.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, especially during peak seasons (spring/summer).
Certification from a bike mechanic training program (preferred but not required).
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to assist with team tasks.
