The UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine is looking to hire a Casual Sr.

EMT to support STAT MedEvac.\n Schedule:\n\n12-hour days, nights, and weekend shifts\na minimum of 48 hours per 8-week schedule\n\n Purpose:\n Under limited supervision, the Sr.

EMT ensures safe and healthy environment for patients and employees by providing competent health and medical services in a prehospital setting.

The Sr.

EMT will work as part of the team to care for critically ill and injured patients and will follow PA DOH BLS, ALS and CCG guidelines.

The Sr.

EMT is expected to execute independent judgment, to deliver appropriate care that is consistent with the clinical protocols, when contact with a medical command physician is not possible.

The Sr.

EMT fulfills education and experiential requirements as established by the Medical Director, and performs other duties as assigned.

Supports and upholds the mission, goals, and objectives, of the UPMC system at all times.Responsibilities:\n\nMaintains clean patient environment as well as crew quarters\nEnsures safe operation of patient laden stretcher employing appropriate stretcher discipline at all times.

Maintains safe loading, unloading, adjustment of head of stretcher, and stretcher movement.\nReflects a positive attitude to the customer in a high stress environment at all times, with a clear understanding of who the customer is.\nReports injuries and completes the appropriate documentation, no matter how minor, to a supervisor in a timely manner.\nMaintains fitness for duty by adhering to all employee health requirements, including maximum weight, hearing conservation program, and required medical screenings.\nParticipates constructively in the peer-review driven quality improvement program.\nPerforms all assigned duties, including daily, weekly, monthly, or other duties assigned by the base site manager, including (but not limited to):\nResponsible for the safe operation of the transport vehicle and ensures a safe environment for patient and other healthcare workers in and around CEM vehicles.\nCompletes all official documentation in a timely manner such as payroll, expense reports, orientation forms, etc.\nEnsures the safety of patients and all others.

Utilizes appropriate safety channels to report safety concerns and uses tools available to enhance a safe work environment.\nPerforms daily equipment check (vehicle, medications)\nSelects and uses personal protective equipment appropriate to the level of the anticipated hazard.\nMaintains and ensures adequate vehicle operation including proper fuel, fluid levels, lights, sirens, radio, cellular phone functioning.

Works with Regional Medical Manager to ensure all mechanical deficiencies are corrected.\nDemonstrates the ability to establish a rapport with customers; including the ability to create and sustain a positive relationship; regardless of circumstances, environment, or patient presentation.\nEnsures crew is logged onto computer duty roster\nResponds promptly and efficiently to all requests for service.\nEnsures patient and family confidentiality and dignity at all times.\nParticipates in shift report from off going crew\nCollects and promptly processes demographic, medical necessity, and other necessary billing information.\nParticipates in scheduled and unscheduled outreach activities, representing the UPMC and STAT MedEvac system.\nCollaborates with PHRN and Paramedic to care for critically ill or injured patients in adherence with established protocols and standards of care; assessing online medical command or other resources when appropriate.\nReports for work well rested and fit for duty.

Adhering to the drug and alcohol policy at all times.

including prescription and/or over the counter medicine use.\nDemonstrates skills, competencies, and judgment necessary to provide patient care in any environment; using educational resources that are required or made available.\nAdheres to the current uniform policy.\nActively participates in the development and training of new staff.\nEquipment checks\nAdheres to rules for scheduling, including schedule requests, minimum time, and availability.\n\n1 year of previous EMT experience required for Sr.

EMT title.\nHigh School Diploma (or equivalent) required\n\n 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your manager.

Previous ambulance and/or hospital experience preferred.

Reliable transportation and be willing to travel to any STAT MedEvac base site as assigned.

Must be able to successfully complete the prescribed orientation program, including classroom, clinical rotations, educational competencies, and on the job training.

Must work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities, and specialized equipment.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:\n North Central Pennsylvania and Central Pennsylvania allow for the Emergency Vehicle Operator (EMSVO) certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
