We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead all accounting and financial operations for our growing organization in the Orange County/Rockland area of NY. In this pivotal role, you will report directly to ownership and oversee a small team of bookkeepers while driving the development of financial processes and systems. Responsibilities:
• Oversee all financial aspects of construction projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management, to ensure alignment with company objectives.
• Manage and improve billing processes, ensuring accuracy in schedules of values, payment applications, and lien waivers in compliance with contract terms.
• Prepare and analyze work-in-progress (WIP) schedules to monitor project costs, revenue recognition, and completion percentages for accurate reporting and decision-making.
• Review and validate project cost controls, including change orders, to identify financial risks and implement strategies to enhance profitability.
• Ensure compliance with construction-specific accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies.
• Lead the implementation and optimization of accounting systems, such as Sage Intacct, to improve operational efficiency and accuracy.
• Oversee month-end and year-end close processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions, maintaining strong internal controls and efficient workflows.
• Develop and execute annual budgets, providing insights and recommendations to ownership for strategic planning.
• Collaborate with ownership and other departments to build and streamline the finance and accounting team.• Proven experience in construction accounting, including managing financial operations for construction projects.
• Proficiency in Sage Intacct or similar accounting systems, with the ability to implement and optimize financial software.
• Strong understanding of work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Expertise in key financial processes, such as month-end close, budgeting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Familiarity with AIA billing and construction-specific financial documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to build and lead a finance team, creating efficient processes and workflows.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on financial accuracy and compliance.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is a plus.
