In addition to having a General Accountant and an AP Clerk, the Controller will have the opportunity to hire for a vacant position that can be staffed according to their own assessment (could be Accounting Manager, Analyst, etc.)
Drive the yearly budgeting process and/or receive mentorship to increase your skill set in this area
Work in a flat organization without the bureaucracy and red tape found in larger healthcare systems. You’ll have easy access to the CEO and other executive leaders
Work collaboratively with a skilled Revenue Cycle Director. This will be valuable exposure on your pathway to a future CFO role
The Role You'll Play
As Controller you are the leader of the finance and accounting department. You will provide sound business acumen to the revenue generating and expense components of the organization and will take a leadership role over the day-to-day financial operations. As directed by the CFO, you will oversee accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, long range planning and audit activities of the organization.

For over 20 years, our client has been improving the well-being of in-need, underserved communities in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties. The organization provides access to high-quality healthcare services for everyone in the community, regardless of their ability to pay
501(c)(3) non-profit that started its first year as a designated Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 2014. This FQHC designation gives them access to grant funding and special reimbursements to extend their reach
With an operating budget of $15M and 130 employees, the organization serves a patient population of 15,000 from four health center locations (opening a 5th location soon)
A robust mix of services are offered to patients including Primary Care, Dental, Behavioral Health, Chiropractic Care, Diabetes Care, Infectious Disease, Podiatry, Optometry, and Telehealth
Background Profile
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar is required. CPA and/or MBA is desirable
Minimum of 5-8 years’ accounting experience in a progressive, complex, and sophisticated accounting environment. Previous non-profit or FQHC experience is desirable
Ability to work in an organization where meaningful change happens through thoughtful planning and collaboration. The ideal candidate will thrive in an environment that values steady, strategic progress over rapid, top-down transformation
Excellent character with high standards of quality and accuracy
Collaborative, team player with who is driven to progress in their career while simultaneously elevating others
Ability to effectively navigate government regulations and Federal requirements (or the desire and aptitude to learn)
Intrigued by the idea of working in a flat organization where you are both strategic and hands-on
Effective presentation capabilities with multiple stakeholder groups. Grounded and comfortable with the ability to read a room
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures and principles, creating financial statements, general ledger functions, and month end/year end close processes
Expertise in the MS Office Suite
