Contracted Custodial Team Lead (Full-Time)

Job Goal: The Custodial Team Lead plays a vital leadership role in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning environment for students, staff, and the community. This position is responsible for overseeing daily custodial operations, coordinating maintenance tasks, and ensuring custodial staff perform their duties efficiently and effectively.

Basic Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Prior custodial experience is required; leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform moderate to heavy physical labor.

Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work independently and lead a custodial team effectively.

Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with staff, students, and the public.

Knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols.

Willingness to learn, take direction, and train team members.

Successful completion of a criminal background check.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Basic computer and email skills required, including use of a Windows-based computer or iPad to update the District ticketing system and communicate via email.

Essential Responsibilities:

Lead and coordinate custodial staff to ensure cleaning and maintenance tasks are completed efficiently.

Perform and oversee daily custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and waxing floors.

Clean and sanitize walls, furniture, drinking fountains, restrooms, and other interior surfaces.

Ensure proper maintenance and operation of cleaning equipment and custodial supplies are stocked.

Assist in training and evaluating custodial staff and providing performance feedback.

Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and district policies.

Address work orders and minor repairs, or report larger maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.

Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies and inventory.

Assist with snow and ice removal and application of de-icing products as needed.

Set up and take down furniture or equipment for special events.

Maintain the security of assigned areas, including locking/unlocking doors and setting alarms.

Act as a point of contact for custodial staff and communicate effectively with the Facilities Manager.

Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Uniforms are required during all work shifts. Shirts will be provided; employees must supply and wear black pants and black slip-resistant shoes.

Reports To: Facilities Manager or designated supervisor.

Location: Position available at designated district locations.

Compensation & Schedule:

Hourly Rate: Starting at $20.00 an hour, based on experience.

Schedule: Monday–Friday with rotating weekend shifts required; hours will vary based on location and assignment.

Holiday Pay and Paid Time Off: 12 paid holidays per year, along with additional paid time off.

Position Type: Contracted through a third-party service provider.

Health Insurance: This position includes single-coverage health insurance through the contracted provider. The district will contribute up to the State of Michigan’s hard cap amount; any cost exceeding that cap will be the responsibility of the contracted employee. Contracted employees also have the option to purchase two-person or family coverage at their own expense.
