SUMMARY

Responsible for operating heavy machinery such as a high-speed metal stamping press and performing secondary operations in a safe, timely and accurate manner to produce parts consistent with production and quality needs and requirements, as laid out by the Production Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Receives Pre-Job Brief and job assignment and verifies information to ensure the contents are correct (latest drawing revision level, part identified in the Shop Traveler, material to be used, etc.). Resolves any information that is incorrect before proceeding. Follows all applicable Standard Operating Procedures (“SOPs”).

Press Operation:

Verifies die to be used. Assuming die is ready for operation, sets die up in press.

Starts machines, monitors their operations, and records operational data, as required.

Performs service on die, as needed. This responsibility can take place at any time or even multiple times from set up through completion of the job.

Sets up the die and press to comply with customer and company requirements.

Sets stops on machine beds, changes dies, and adjusts components, such as rams or power presses, when making multiple or successive passes.

Secondary Operations:

Starts machines, monitors their operations, and records operational data, as required. Machines may include SST presses, Secondary end bend tools, 90 bend tool, Laser welding, pinch roll and bend level, & secondary end trim presses.

Follows inspection process to comply with customer and company requirements. Inspects parts during production to meet customer and company requirements and produces pieces within tolerance.

Examines completed workpieces for defects, such as chipped edges or marred surfaces and sorts defective pieces according to types of flaws.

Measures completed workpieces to verify conformance to specifications, using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.

Investigates problems that arise while running a job and applies problem solving techniques to attempt to resolve problems, using assistance as needed.

Maintains focus on productivity, maximizing uptime.

Completes required paperwork accurately and efficiently to verify work.

Properly tracks time worked using required methods and systems.

Participates in training and cross training efforts, as assigned.

Operate assigned equipment and vehicles such as forklifts, cranes, and pallet jacks.

General

Embraces and participates in JV’s Safety culture, always keeping Safety as the #1 priority. Conforms to and follows all safety rules, production, and quality directives. Maintains cleanliness of work area to meet JV standards.

Reports any incidents that have occurred in a timely fashion and participates in investigations, as required (i.e. safety, spills, accidents, productivity/workflow).

Makes suggestions, demonstrates a questioning attitude and is supportive and open minded to new and existing ideas/initiatives. (i.e. Human Performance (“HPI”), SOPs and LEAN Manufacturing).

Maintains positive and supportive employee relations through continuous communication with all colleagues.

Filing, inventory, administrative, tasks, security, auditing, housekeeping, painting, inspections, telephone calls, ordering, shipping, training, mentoring, updating safety data sheets, and any other duties as assigned.

Performs other duties and assignments, as deemed necessary, to support JV’s dynamic business and operational needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

Education -- High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience -- No experience required; however, must be able to meet knowledge and competency requirements below.

Technology – Basic computer skills, including use and navigation of internet/intranet. Ability to learn basic use of Microsoft Office products. Ability to understand and apply appropriate usage of technology in a work environment including virus prevention. Ability to learn other technology related skills, as needed, to perform the essential functions of the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

3+ years of previous experience in a manufacturing environment.

Advanced training or education in a related area.

Previous experience as a metal stamping press operator.

Previous experience in the tool and die industry.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally working within a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment.

This position is considered safety sensitive, due to operating heavy machinery and equipment.

Work week is a minimum of 40 hours (i.e. 8 hours per day, with a paid lunch). There is additional mandatory overtime as business and operational needs necessitate. Shifts may rotate between 1st, 2nd and 3rd shift, as required. Required work hours, schedules and shifts are subject to change based upon business necessity. Required reliable transportation applies to all shifts, as assigned.

Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.

Noise level varies throughout the different work areas. Must wear appropriate PPE, as required, in work area(s).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

General – Physical ability and mobility to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement; ability to climb unusual heights on ladders, to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy loads (up to 50 lbs.);

Near Vision — The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
