Location: Columbus, OH
Pay: $16.00
Schedule: M - F: 8 - 5
Position Overview:
We are seeking a certified and experienced Medical Coder Level 2 to join our team. This role requires in-depth expertise in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems along with the ability to monitor, analyze, and implement efficient coding policies across the agency. You will work under general direction and serve as a subject matter expert for medical coding, ensuring accuracy and compliance in support of healthcare operations and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications:
3–4 years of medical coding experience
Degree in RHIA or RHIT OR certification as CPC, CCS, CCS-P
Active certification and membership with a professional coding organization such as AAPC or AHIMA
Demonstrated understanding of ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
Proven experience with health information systems, statistical analysis, and policy application
Certifications (Required):
One or more of the following credentials:
CPC – Certified Professional Coder (AAPC)
CCS – Certified Coding Specialist (AHIMA)
CCS-P – Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (AHIMA)
RHIA – Registered Health Information Administrator (AHIMA)
RHIT – Registered Health Information Technician (AHIMA)
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in monitoring and implementing agency-wide ICD coding policies and procedures
Analyze ICD, CPT, and HCPCS reports to ensure proper usage and assignment
Identify and interpret relevant agency regulations, laws, and policies
Serve as a technical expert in medical coding systems and provide analytical insights
Resolve coding discrepancies and provide support to internal stakeholders
Collaborate with other professionals on policy updates and system enhancements
Maintain high levels of accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality
Support process audits and improvement initiatives in medical coding and reporting
Prepare and present reports, summaries, and training materials
Knowledge Areas:
ICD diagnosis coding, CPT, HCPCS systems
Medical terminology, human anatomy & physiology
State and federal healthcare regulations (e.g., ORC)
Health delivery systems, health information systems, and data management
Claims processing and healthcare administration principles
Statistical analysis, outcome/process evaluation, and policy research
Skills & Abilities:
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Able to use ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding manuals and software
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Data collection, analysis, and report generation
Project management and policy drafting
Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to resolve problems using data and established coding standards
Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
