Colby College is seeking a new Advisor for Business and FInance to join the DavisConnects team. The advisor will participate in a comprehensive student advising model focused on the integration of global, curricular, and co-curricular experiences. The successful candidate will advise students and alumni who express interest in exploring, preparing for, and pursuing higher education and careers in finance, banking, business, commercial real estate, and related professions.

Colby College is seeking a new Advisor for Business and FInance to join the DavisConnects team. The advisor will participate in a comprehensive student advising model focused on the integration of global, curricular, and co-curricular experiences. The successful candidate will advise students and alumni who express interest in exploring, preparing for, and pursuing higher education and careers in finance, banking, business, commercial real estate, and related professions.

Essential Functions

To perform successfully in this position, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily as well as possess education/experience, employ the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed in representative fashion. Primary advisor to students and alumni interested in all areas of business and finance, helping them assess interests, explore opportunities, and refine a plan leading to post-graduate success

Partner with DavisConnects external constituents (alumni/parent volunteers) to provide more specific expertise, facilitate advising and networking opportunities, and access to job and internship opportunities

Facilitate workshops and manage programs for all business and finance related career paths, including, but not limited to: industry focused alumni panels, off-campus job treks (off-campus opportunities to explore career industries across the U.S.) and topical workshops

Advise on, and critique industry-specific resumes and cover letters, and provide behavioral and technician interview preparation and guidance

Facilitate mock interviews and networking opportunities

Advocate for underrepresented groups (e.g., FLI, POSSE, etc.) and diversity in finance professions, and help students take advantage of early identification programs designed to introduce them to these professions

Advocate for and advise international students, many of whom are interested in pursuing careers in business and finance, and collaborate with the Employer Engagement team to ensure that they have the research and internship (national and international) opportunities they need to successfully compete for employment after graduation

Maintain existing, and create new partnerships to help Colby students acquire required knowledge and skills to succeed in interviews with leading financial institutions (e.g., Wallstreet Prep, Tuck Business Bridge, Colby Finance Alumni Club, etc.)

Work with student finance clubs (e.g., Mayflower Hill Capital) to deliver high quality programming, and workshops to a highly engaged and mobilized student audience

Build and nurture relationships with academic departments, student groups, and other campus entities to ensure inclusion and access to business and financial services career preparation and recruiting at Colby

Work with Colby Advancement to leverage contacts who can enhance student programming and experiential opportunities

Represent DavisConnects at all new student orientations, admissions events, and all commencement activities

Research and advise on leading MBA programs in the U.S. and abroad

Maintain current knowledge of key industry trends and identify areas of opportunity and growth for students and young alumni

Experience organizing, marketing, and executing both large and small scale events required

Participate in all "all-hands" Dean of the College and Colby College events. Including weekend and evening events. Position Qualifications

Education and/or experience:

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent in education and experience; advanced coursework or MBA degree a plus

3 plus years of experience in finance or a related field; experience recruiting in these industries, or general business experience strongly preferred

Career advising and/or progressive responsibility in student advising in a liberal arts college setting preferred

Working knowledge of behavioral techniques for student interview preparation and of the finance industry landscape

Ability to interact effectively with multiple constituents including student, faculty, alumni, parents, and employers

Commitment to working with a diverse student population at a top liberal arts college

Experience working with or advising diverse groups or students appreciated

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills combined with a professional demeanor

Highly organized with extreme attentiveness to detail related to managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

Proficiency in database systems as well as Google/Microsoft suites

Valid driver's license required and must meet the College's Fleet Safety Policy requirements Physical/Mental Demands

There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged personal computer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor.
