Company
A newly capitalized, high-growth player in the annuity and reinsurance space, this company is part of a broader strategy to build a global alternative credit and insurance platform, with significant capital committed to fuel its expansion. Backed by experienced investment and insurance leaders, including a CEO from a major Fortune 500 Life/Annuity carrier, it is focused on delivering innovative financial solutions that help individuals retire with confidence and security.
As the carrier continues to build out its team, their Chief Actuary is looking to hire a ALM Actuary to lead and enhance the ALM framework—bringing together actuarial modeling, investment strategy, and balance sheet risk management to support financial soundness and product profitability. This role reports to the Chief Actuary.
Good opportunity for a strategically minded actuary who wants to bridge actuarial and investment functions, contribute directly to asset-liability strategy, and gain visibility with senior leadership at a fast-growing annuity carrier.
Responsibilities
Design, refine, and manage the asset-liability management (ALM) framework for both MYGA and FIA products.
Conduct scenario testing—both deterministic and stochastic—for interest rate and credit movements to evaluate asset and liability cash flow interactions.
Work closely with the Investments team to craft investment strategies that reflect liability characteristics, duration targets, and liquidity needs.
Analyze duration gaps, key rate durations, and convexity; identify and help mitigate basis risk and reinvestment challenges.
Collaborate with product design teams to evaluate how product features—like surrender behavior or index crediting—affect ALM metrics and strategy.
Track and communicate capital requirement metrics (e.g., RBC, C-3 Phase I/II), and contribute to broader economic capital initiatives.
Provide support in developing hedge strategies, including modeling for FIA option hedging when needed.
Lead or support cash flow testing (CFT) and assist in preparing actuarial documentation for both statutory and GAAP financials.
Deliver clear, actionable insights to senior stakeholders such as the CIO, CFO, and members of the risk committee.
Qualifications
FSA or near-FSA designation with 5+ years of actuarial experience in the life or annuity space.
Solid grasp of annuity products—especially MYGAs and FIAs—including behavioral assumptions and embedded option risks.
Hands-on experience with ALM or projection modeling platforms such as Moody’s AXIS, Polysystems, MG-ALFA, or comparable tools.
Working knowledge of investment principles, including fixed income instruments, derivatives, credit spread dynamics, and duration matching.
Understanding of key reporting and capital regimes (statutory, GAAP, RBC, including C3 Phase I/II frameworks).
Programming capabilities in Python, VBA, or SQL are a plus.
Thrives in nimble, fast-paced environments and enjoys working across functions.
Preferred:
Familiarity with private credit strategies or customized portfolio construction.
Exposure to index-linked options or hedging frameworks.
Proactive mindset with a strong commercial lens and interest in influencing both asset and liability management strategies.
