Certified Pharmacy Technician

Part Time - must have flexible hours mss

Job Summary: Help licensed pharmacists provide medication and other health care products to patients. Technicians usually perform routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication for patients. Technicians refer any questions regarding prescriptions, drug information, or health matters to a pharmacist. Pharmacy Technicians perform duties based on the application of scientific pharmacy principles.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Prepares prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist by retrieving, counting, pouring, weighing, and at times mixing medication. Responsible for maintaining accurate records of medication and equipment dispensed to patients. Responsible for accurate entry of patient data into the pharmacy software programs. Ensures that the correct insurance information is entered into the system and that claims are properly adjudicated

Makes requisitions for drugs and supplies with professional guidance from the pharmacists

Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of drugs and chemicals, and ensures their security. Interacts with co-workers, pharmacists and vendors to resolve any discrepancies and to improve processes.

Enters data in computer system, recording all the prescriptions, purchase orders, requisitions, and disbursements

Performs general clerical duties, such as answering phones, operating cash register, etc.

Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting. Maintains integrity of processes to ensure confidentiality of PHI. This may include delivery of medications to residents home.

All Pharmacy technicians shall identify themselves as pharmacy technicians by wearing a type of identification badge which is clearly visible at all times.

The current Pharmacy technician registration must be displayed conspicuously near the Pharmacy department.

Pharmacy Technician shall not

Receive new verbal order or any change in medication, strength or directions

Interpret a prescription or medication order for therapeutic acceptability and appropriateness.

Conduct final verification of dosage and directions

Engage in prospective drug review

Provide patient counseling

Monitor prescription usage

Override clinical alerts without first notifying the pharmacist.

Educational, Physical, and Other Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required in addition to completion of a one year Certified Pharmacy Technician program. Long term pharmacy experience is a plus.

Strong general math and computer skills.

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situation.

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills are essential.
