Job Summary
Open Hand’s Auto & Body Mechanic is responsible cost-effectively and efficiently ensuring delivery vehicles are functioning, with minimal downtime, including regular maintenance, diagnostics, inspections, as well as coordinating, documenting and communicating with leadership. The right candidate will drive repair costs down due to proper and timely maintenance. The position is flexible, 20 hrs/week and will require coordination with distribution leadership to arrange access to fleet. This role will require late afternoons, evenings and weekends to complete projects.
Auto & Body Mechanic Responsibilities
Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing and repairing vehicles by replacing worn parts, performing maintenance checks, and fixing mechanical components on cars and trucks, ensuring they function properly according to manufacturer specifications and inspecting damaged vehicles after accidents, assessing the extent of damage, estimating repair costs, removing and replacing damaged body parts, repairing structural damage, prepping surfaces for painting, and applying new paint to restore a vehicle to its pre-accident condition.
Duties/ Responsibilities
Inspect machines, engines, transmissions etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
Diagnose and identify mechanical issues and repair as needed
Perform troubleshooting routines and assess systems and modules for operative defects
Perform routine maintenance tasks like oil changes, fluid level checks, and tire rotations
Repair or replace parts that have worn out or malfunctioned
Communicate the details of necessary repairs and maintenance needs to leadership
Maintain a database of spare parts in the Ops Storage area or outside storage shed
Maintain vehicle service records for entire fleet
Ensure vehicle registrations are current
Replace worn or damaged parts like brakes, tires, batteries, and engine components.
Disassemble damaged vehicle components like fenders, bumpers, hoods, and doors to replace them with new parts.
Post collision, thoroughly inspect vehicles to identify all areas of damage, including structural issues
Patch dents, hammering out minor damage, and filling depressions with body filler
Provide training to drivers as needed to improve safety and repair costs.
Provide on-the-road assistance as needed to ensure all meal deliveries are made
Other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
Proficient use of Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook
Experience in data analysis and providing a high level of attention to details and follow-up
Exceptional communication skills
Ability to work under pressure of deadlines
Comfortable calling and working with vendors to get parts shipped for repairs
Education/Experience
High school diploma or vocational school
Auto Technicians – degree or certification
Autobody repair – degree or certification
Physical Requirements
Employees must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and to stand for long periods of time.
The job sometimes requires repetitive and continuous intensive physical labor.
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
