Education: North Dakota Secondary Principal's Credential, North Dakota Teaching License, Master's degree with emphasis in school administration and experience in teaching. Administrative experience preferred.

Job Goal: The role of the Associate Principal is to assist in supervising the overall operation of the school, giving direction and supervision to the educational program, implementing the policies of the school board, and carrying out the directives of the Associate Superintendent of Secondary Education.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

Leadership

Create an environment that contributes to the desired performance of students and teachers in accordance with the school's philosophy and mission statement.

Provide professional growth opportunities for all staff members at the building level that align with the district's strategic plan.

Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations.

Keep current with trends, issues, and practices in education at the local, state, and national level.

Institute, implement, and monitor the district's strategic plan. Curriculum and Instruction

Assist in selection, development and implementation of curriculum.

Assist teachers, parents, and students in developing appropriate educational and behavioral plans for students.

Serves on committees as requested by the principal.

Plan and provide for supervision of co-curricular programs.

Work with the Special Education Department in the referral, staffing, and placement of special needs students. Management

Assist in supervising all areas of the plant and grounds.

Assist in the construction of the master schedule.

Maintain student discipline consistent with school rules and policies as annually outlined and updated in the student handbook.

Assist in maintaining an accurate student attendance and reporting system.

Assist in completing local, state, and federal reports.

Assist in planning for the safety of students in emergency situations.

Assist in coordinating bus routes for the transportation of students.

Assist in developing and maintaining a schedule of staff supervision for study halls, hallways, commons area, and computer Personnel

Assist in recruitment, selection, and orientation and training of all personnel in the building.

Assist in delegating duties to certified and non-certified staff, supervising and evaluating staff according to district and state regulations.

Provide high quality, growth-orientated feedback to supervised staff. Communication

Maintain communications with building and district personnel, community organizations and media; and collaborate with other educational and social agencies and the community.

Encourage and promote parent involvement in the school.

Provide appropriate written communications: school newsletters, handbook, etc.

Supervise the planning and promotion of school activities. Athletics

Hiring, supervising, and evaluation of HEAD coaches (Head coaches hire/evaluate assistant coaches; with support of Associate Principal)

Supervisory Responsibility: Secondary teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing employee performance and disciplinary matters; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.

Terms of Employment: As established by negotiations (210 or 230 days contract).

Evaluation: By the building principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
