Integrity Risk International is a leader in the evolution, growth, and delivery of risk management services. We are actively looking for an experienced Editor to join our team in Reston, VA. The Editor is in charge of ensuring consistency and accuracy in writing style and clarity in our reports. They are tasked with ensuring high quality, professional deliverables are consistently produced on a timely basis for all clients, internal and external. As a member of the editing team, they will not only be reviewing and editing reports themselves – to include thorough review for grammar, spelling, punctuation and writing errors along with a focus on accuracy in details and inclusion of background/context – but may also oversee other editors’ work, with a focus on quality, accuracy and efficiency.

This position requires a high level of attention to detail as well as excellent reading and writing comprehension, a thorough knowledge of English grammar and spelling, the ability to meet tight deadlines and work well in a team environment, and adaptability to change. Editors must be proven leaders who can lead by example and identify and address issues/provide feedback– not just in reports but also among team members – proactively and decisively. Excellent communications skills are a must as is the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues of importance.

This is a full-time, in office, position (40 hours per week) with excellent benefits (e.g., health insurances (medical, dental, vision), and paid time off.

What you will do:

Perform a thorough editorial review of copy to identify spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammatical errors on a variety of writing pieces. Additionally, the review will look at a multitude of other factors such as sentence structure, word choice, paragraph length and continuity of content. Focus will also be on individual words, to include rewriting sections to improve the clarity of a sentence.

Perform detailed content review of copy to identify factual errors and contradictions, as well as the need for necessary background and context. This may involve suggesting rewrites that are necessary to improve the overall flow of the content and asking questions to ensure all required context and details are included and well-presented.

Synthesize and smooth content from multiple authors into one document, ensure a well-composed syntax, track changes effectively, and maintain accurate versioning records in preparation for final review by an executive.

For certain reports, acts as final reviewer with main focus on content and writing, while ensuring first review as handled correctly.

Work closely with team members throughout the lifecycle of a project, to include providing feedback – mainly written but, when necessary, orally – on deliverables and being aware of client requirements and/or the research process to help formulate accurate reports.

Ensure that high-quality deliverables targeted at a professional, business-oriented audience (finance, legal, and commercial sectors) are produced while working within budget and deadlines.

Develop and maintain company writing style guidelines and report templates.

Potentially lead and mentor other editors with not only proactive feedback, but also efficiency and productivity on the quality of their editing.

What you bring:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, or related degree.

At least 3-5 years of editing experience; will accept time spent with a college publication or as an intern.

Experienced with Microsoft Office Products (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including Review Track Changes and editing tools.

Meticulous and proven proofreading skills, attention to detail, and high sense of focus on producing high-quality deliverables.

Professional presence and ability to work with cross-functional teams, to include being able to provide feedback comfortably and capably – both written and orally – to researchers and other editors about their work.

Flexible and able to manage and prioritize projects simultaneously with a high sense of urgency in meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.

Experience working with other team members to ensure quality and timeliness with overall work products and services.
