Job Summary: The Director of Community Affairs is responsible for representing the Councilman in various community and agency meetings, events, and as a liaison between the Councilmember and the community.
Key duties include attending community association meetings, coordinating and staffing community events, addressing community issues, finding solutions, and educating the public about services offered by the office.
This role involves event planning, permit submissions, and coordinating day-of logistics, as well as regular canvassing in District 8.
The Director will also promote office events, assist community members with accessing city resources, conduct site visits to monitor neighborhood issues like illegal dumping and blight, and maintain social media and the district website to communicate important updates.
Collaboration with team members on various projects is essential.
Essential Functions: * Represent the Councilman at inter-agency meetings, community association meetings, stakeholder meetings, and community events, as well as acting as the liaison between the Councilmember & community members/stakeholders & residents * Identify important meetings and events and work with the Director of Constituency Services to schedule and staff events for and on behalf of the Councilman * Report community problems or issues through proper internal protocols * Identify options and solutions to the issues raised by the community after approving them through internal channels * Educate the community about services provided by the office * Event planning including submission of permits, tracking of events checklist, and day of coordination * Regularly canvass District 8 communities for various reasons * Promote office events and distribute office communication materials * Assisting community members with accessing City resources * Conduct weekly site visits to monitor "hot spots" such as illegal dumping, blight & vacant homes, high grass & weeds.
* Work collaboratively as a team member on all projects whether the lead or participant * Maintain social media communications & district website to promote announcements, resources, emergencies, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: * High school diploma or GED + 3 years of experience in community outreach, organizing, and/or communications Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: * Must have great communication skills and be knowledgeable about social media platforms * Must be available for regular evenings/weekends when meetings & events are scheduled * Must be OK with flexible scheduling for emergency responses * Must have a valid driver's license, a car, and/or access to a vehicle for weekly site visits Additional Information Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.
Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
