Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Startup Technical Writer opportunity in Oak Ridge for the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) located at the Y-12 National Security Complex.

Project Description:

UPF is a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar project and will be a first-of-its-kind complex for enriched uranium operations in support of Y-12 missions. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will: replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.

The UPF project works on a 4/10 schedule. Start times are flexible, but the standard work week is: Monday - Thursday from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Eligibility for this position requires:

US citizenship

Candidate must complete security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements check.

All employees are subject and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment.

Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

Job Summary:

The UPF Startup Technical Writer will:

Support the Startup team with Test Packages.

Ensure technical editing, graphics, document control, and record management.

Provide an understanding of the technical process of the testing documentation and the intent of the testing objective.

Work with Testing Engineers to ensure the intent of the package isn’t compromised with editorial changes.

Provide accurate input to the Startups Lead Technical Writer to prevent delays in testing activities.

Major Responsibilities:

Take detailed direction from the Startup Lead Technical Writer for assigned work activities.

Understanding the Technical process of the testing documents.

Ensuring the quality of functional test instructions.

Coordinating with the Startup Test Engineers to ensure the intent of testing procedures has not been

compromised.

Developing and maintaining documentation with project document controls.

Performing other duties as directed in support of project activities.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor Degree from an accredited university or related field and 3 or more years

In lieu of a formal degree, 7 years of related experience in a startup nuclear power facility, DOE construction project, or similar;

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, which includes

verification of employment and education.

Must be able to obtain a site security badge for access to worksite.

Must be a US citizen.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of principles and practices related to startup testing and commissioning.

Good knowledge of related construction and engineering practices and the economics involved.

Knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, and design criteria.

Excellent computer skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills with experience preparing and presenting test procedures
