About the University of Hawai’i Foundation:
The University of Hawaiʻi Foundation was established in 1955 to encourage private support for the University of Hawaiʻi. Today it is the central fundraising organization for the UH System and is contracted by the Board of Regents to be the sole provider of fundraising and alumni services. In addition to fundraising, the Foundation manages more than 7000 gift accounts for the benefit of the university and its students.
The UH Foundation is a private, institutionally related corporation designated as a 501(c)(3) organization by the Internal Revenue Service. It is a legally separate entity from the University of Hawaiʻi, the UH Alumni Association, and all other UH affiliates. However, the UH Foundation works closely with these organizations, as well as with others in the community, exclusively for the benefit of the university.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Graphic Designer supports the UH Foundation’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts by creating compelling visual materials across print and digital platforms. This role brings our mission to life through thoughtful, on-brand design that enhances print publications, fundraising proposals and campaigns, events, and stewardship communications. The designer plays a key part in shaping how our donors see and feel the impact of their giving, and in elevating the institutional brand.
REPORTS TO
Associate Vice President for Communications & External Relations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Collaborate with Communications team to design and produce high quality print and electronic publications that promote UH Foundation’s philanthropic outreach including the annual report and donor newsletters.
Collaborate with various departments and staff to develop and/or provide creative direction for effective marketing communication and donor publication projects.
Partner with web manager to keep visually compelling and engaging to inspire support of UH. Evaluate and make recommendations for improving design and usability of website(s) as needed.
Partner with Fundraising and Donor Relations teams to create custom major gift proposals and high net worth donor stewardship impact reports, to include research, copywriting, and design.
Obtain input from managers to ensure that designs meet organizational standards, brand expectations, and express ideas accurately.
Partner with the Office of Estate and Gift Planning to develop planned giving marketing materials, including newsletters, brochures, postcards, direct mail pieces.
Work with Special Events team to produce event collateral.
Support Scholarship team’s print and electronic outreach to students and donors.
Manage UHF brand and ensure strong visual cohesion of internal and external marketing communication materials.
Responsible for the appearance and consistency of print and electronic materials such as letterheads, use of logo, publications, email templates, etc.
Support and advise on plans for UHF’s marketing communication efforts, monitor progress, and evaluate performance.
Be a resource to other departments and liaise with outside vendors in budgeting, planning and production of marketing communication materials.
Develop targeted ad campaigns with integrated messaging and visual continuity.
Follow developments and trends in the fields of marketing communication and philanthropy to ensure innovative marketing communication initiatives.
Conduct special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Strong portfolio demonstrating both print and digital design capabilities
Understanding of branding, layout, typography, and visual storytelling
Ability to interpret strategic goals and translate them into creative visual solutions
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of professional design experience
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of integrated marketing communication programs.
Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office software.
Collaborative team player.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong creative, strategic, analytical, and organizational skills.
Excellent time-management skills for meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
