Job Summary
The University of Georgia Extension in Rockdale County seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated Community Garden Program Assistant to assist the ANR agent in managing all local community garden initiatives. This position will support community members in growing their own food, promote sustainable agricultural practices, and engage diverse populations in educational programming aimed at improving food security and environmental sustainability. The Community Garden Program Assistant will work closely with the ANR Extension Agent and other UGA Extension staff, local organizations, and volunteers to develop and execute a variety of community outreach, education, and hands-on gardening activities.

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the community garden program, including garden planning, resource management, and garden site maintenance. Ensure gardens are accessible and productive for participants, maintaining a safe and inviting environment.
Foster strong relationships with local residents, schools, community groups, and other stakeholders.
Organize outreach efforts to promote garden participation, recruit volunteers, and build a sense of community among garden participants.
Develop, coordinate, and lead educational workshops and events on gardening techniques, sustainable farming practices, food preservation, and nutrition. Tailor programs to meet the needs of diverse groups, including youth, seniors, and underserved populations.
Recruit, train, and manage a network of volunteers to support garden activities, including planting, maintenance, and events. Facilitate volunteer appreciation and recognition programs.
Work within budget constraints to manage the acquisition and distribution of gardening supplies, seeds, tools, and other materials. Ensure gardens are well-resourced and sustainable over time.
Track program participation, garden productivity, and impact metrics. Prepare and submit reports to the County Extension Agent, local government partners, and other stakeholders as needed.
Cultivate relationships with local businesses, nonprofits, schools, and government agencies to enhance the program's reach, effectiveness, and resource base. Collaborate with other University of
Georgia Extension programs and local initiatives focused on food security, nutrition, and environmental sustainability.

Promote the community garden program through various channels, including social media, newsletters, flyers, and community events. Create and maintain a positive public image for the program and its activities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic social media platforms.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Working Conditions
Must be able to lift and carry gardening tools, supplies, and materials up to 40 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
1) Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
2) Two (2) years of experience in community gardening, program management, or a related field.
3) OR have a combination of education, training, and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
4) Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
1) Master Gardener certification or similar horticulture training is preferred.
2) Experience working with diverse populations and volunteers is highly desirable.
