Located in Harvey, Louisiana, the school caters to a diverse student body from the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, consisting of 59% Black/African American, 24% White, 15% Hispanic, and 2% Asian students, with 87% qualifying as economically disadvantaged.

Position Overview
At Jefferson RISE Charter School, we are seeking a student-centered, results-driven Academic Advisor who believes every student can succeed with the right systems, guidance, and accountability. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and committed to helping students take ownership of their academic progress.
Academic Advisors at RISE play a key role in ensuring students stay on track for graduation and are prepared for post-secondary success. They use academic data and clear communication to guide course planning, monitor progress, and intervene early when support is needed. This role is best suited for someone who holds students to high expectations, communicates clearly, is solution-oriented and focuses on student growth through structure and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Planning & Progress Monitoring
Guide students through course selection and ensure their academic schedules align with graduation requirements and long-term goals
Create, review, and update 4-year academic plans for all students
Track student progress toward promotion and graduation, flag risks early, and implement follow-up steps
2. Data-Driven Intervention
Use academic data (grades, credits, state testing results) to identify students in need of academic support
Recommend and coordinate interventions such as credit recovery, tutoring, or schedule adjustments
Maintain accurate documentation of interventions and outcomes
3. Postsecondary Readiness Support
Reinforce the connection between academic performance and post-secondary opportunities
Partner with the College & Career team to help students understand and prepare for various college and career pathways
Support students in understanding GPA, transcripts, and academic eligibility
4. Student Accountability & Communication
Hold regular check-ins with students to review academic progress and set goals
Communicate clearly and consistently with students and families about academic standing, risks, and next steps
Ensure students understand the importance of effort, attendance, and ownership in their academic success
5. Collaboration & School-Wide Support
Work with teachers, grade-level teams, and student support staff to ensure aligned support across classrooms
Contribute to the development of academic systems, schedules, and processes
Participate in student support meetings and follow through on assigned actions
Administrative
Maintain accurate records of student academic plans, credit status, interventions, and graduation progress
Support transcript reviews, scheduling, and course verification processes in coordination with school leadership
Ensure timely communication and documentation related to promotion, retention, and credit recovery
Assist with state reporting and compliance tasks related to academic progress and graduation
Track and report academic risk indicators (GPA, on-track status, credit accumulation) to inform school decision-making
School and Community Culture
Support implementation of school-wide systems that promote safe, respectful, and responsible student behavior
Promote a culture where students take ownership of their academic progress and decision-making
Serve as a visible and dependable adult in common spaces (e.g., hallways, arrival/dismissal, assemblies)
Contribute to a professional, solutions-oriented culture among staff
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Certification:
Bachelors degree required
Degree in content area (preferred)
Content area certification (preferred)
Experience and Skills:
Proven track record of helping students stay on track for graduation through proactive planning, data monitoring, and timely intervention
Deep understanding of graduation requirements, academic planning, and credit recovery systems
Skilled at using academic data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for support
Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain academic standing, plans, and expectations to students and families
Ability to manage multiple systems and deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail
Familiarity with student information systems and data tools preferred
Prior experience in an educational setting supporting student progress toward graduation

BENEFITS
RISE employees are paid twice a month on the 15th and last day of each month.
Jefferson RISE pays the following employee-only benefit costs for all full-time employees: coverage 85% of medical premiums and 100% of dental, vision, short and long term disability premiums. The Employee covers the remaining costs, including 15% employee medical and all spouse/dependent costs. RISE provides a 401(k) retirement plan to all W-2 employees, including a match of up to 100% of contributions on the first 3% deferred, then 50% of contributions from 3% to 5%. There is no vesting period. Jefferson RISE reserves the right to offer different or additional benefits to the Employee at any time.
