Job Purpose:
The Accounting Intern will support key accounting department projects and initiatives. As part of the accounting team, the intern will perform various departmental functions working with Accounting Supervisors. Work will include exposure to various accounting principles, departmental reporting requirements, and various data entry functions.
Essential Functions:
Performs various departmental data entry, administrative, and clerical functions as determined.
Communicates with vendors and other Virco departments to promote smooth, efficient operations.
Completes functional departmental reporting requirements with daily, weekly, and monthly reporting deadlines.
Gathers, analyzes and/or prepares data.
Performs established internal control procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of information.
Maintains and/or audits various files and/or reports.
Interacts as needed with other departments and outside vendors to resolve discrepancies and to accomplish departmental and business goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Must be a current college Accounting Major, seeking job experience in the field of accounting.
Knowledge and experience working with SAP is preferred.
Must have data entry and computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must have good communication and math skills and good analytical abilities.
Must be able to type and be proficient in 10-key.
Must have good teamwork skills, be flexible, and be able to meet and maintain performance standards.
Must have knowledge and proficient use of applicable office-related equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to occasionally lift a minimum of 25 pounds to waist level, to occasionally push and/or pull up to 25 pounds and to bend, stoop and/or climb. Frequent motion of hand, wrist, and fingers due to typing, writing manually and phone handling on a daily basis. Occasional walking. Occasional bending when filing.
