Job Summary: The Surgical Supply Assistant plays a critical role in ensuring that medical supplies and equipment are readily available, organized, and properly maintained to support patient care and surgical operations. This position is responsible for restocking and managing inventory, maintaining clean and safe supply areas, supporting equipment distribution, and communicating with clinical teams to address urgent needs. The specialist also helps manage specialty items, implants, and consignment inventory, ensuring accurate documentation and timely availability. This role requires attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to supporting efficient, high-quality care.

Key Responsibilities:

Supply Replenishment
Restock and organize medical supplies using standard procedures.
Make sure supply levels meet clinical needs and adjust as necessary.
Use inventory systems accurately to track and manage supplies.
Handle urgent supply requests and help clinical staff with supply issues.
Count and verify stock to ensure accuracy and avoid shortages.
Cleanliness & Organization
Keep all supply areas clean, organized, and safe.
Follow infection control and safety guidelines, including PPE rules.
Report and help fix any issues with supply stations (e.g., labeling, bin updates).
Regularly check for and remove expired supplies.
Equipment Support
Clean, track, and deliver medical equipment to clinical areas.
Report equipment needing repairs and keep clinical staff informed on status.
Communication & Customer Service
Maintain good communication with clinical staff and the supply team.
Respond to supply requests via phone or internal systems.
Notify teams promptly about supply delays, backorders, or substitutions.
Complete daily tasks on time and help with other duties as needed.
Specialty Supplies & Implants
Manage orders for specialty supplies, including patient-specific items.
Track delivery of these items and handle any backorders.
Support implant and tissue inventory, including consignment items.
Coordinate with vendors and update surgical supply records as needed.
Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications listed below (along with education/experience) are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform this job successfully. High school diploma or GED required. Two years of advance education, preferred.
3 years' experience in materials management in a healthcare environment required.
3 years' surgical technology experience, preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Able to stand and sit for extended periods of time, crouch, push/pull, and lift up to 35lbs
Comfortable working in a healthcare environment, specifically sterile areas.
Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
Flexibility to work non-peak hours, as needed.
