This project involves environmental safety oversight for a major soil remediation effort at an automotive manufacturing facility. The Site Safety Officer will be responsible for implementing the site-specific safety plan, enforcing OSHA and HAZWOPER standards, managing confined space protocols, and leading all health and safety activities on site. Work is expected to be performed under Level D PPE, with escalation protocols in place for hazardous exposure scenarios.Qualifications:
• Minimum 5 years of environmental, construction, or remediation safety experience
• OSHA 510 - Construction Safety and Health Standards
• HAZWOPER 40-Hour Certification (Required)
• Confined Space Entry Training (Required)Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
• Serve as full-time, dedicated Site Safety Officer with no dual project roles
• Conduct and document daily safety inspections using the contractor's SSHASP checklist
• Maintain all safety logs, SDS, emergency contact lists, and equipment calibration records
• Lead toolbox talks, site orientations, and semi-annual evacuation drills
• Oversee safe use of all PPE and enforce compliance across all site personnel
• Respond to incidents, lead investigations, and submit findings to the Engineer
• Communicate safety expectations to subcontractors and maintain compliance documentation
• Post signage, safety notices, and emergency procedures prominently on siteSkills:
• Excellent public speaking and communication abilities
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and multitasking
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• OSHA outreach training experience is a plus
• Confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive informationKnowledge:
