About the Position
At Affiliated Monitoring, our success depends on our ability to respond to customer alarms and provide life-saving services in a timely manner. Our networks and telecommunications systems are the lifeblood of our company and our ability to service our customers.
We have an immediate need for a Senior Network and Telecommunications Engineer with at least 8 years of hands-on experience with a multisite Cisco network infrastructure.
The right candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic and work well with our existing talented IT professionals. They will have the ability to lead projects and present solutions to leadership.
This role is ideal for a strong Network Engineer that enjoys working for an IT centric company with the newest technology, to provide thought leadership in technologies such as enterprise networking, cloud engineering and the emerging Internet-of-Things.
The Sr. Network Engineer will manage many technical areas with a focus on the following:
Cisco switches, routers and firewalls
Fortinet firewalls and SD-WAN
Kemp load balancer
Internet and WAN circuit topology and design
High availability network design, configurations and implementations
Ubiquiti wireless access points and controllers
Telecommunications and the migration to cloud
Duties and Responsibilities
50% - Solution Design and Project Delivery
Support, install, and improve existing network infrastructure
Gather requirements from business stakeholders
Design and architect network solutions
Research new technologies and methodologies
Develop and document specifications, researching vendors and solutions for comparison, and estimating initial and recurring costs for these solutions.
Help the business leverage the Internet-of-Things for strategic growth.
25% - Incident/Problem Management of Network Systems and Technologies
Act as an escalation point for other members of IT
Own and manage multiple incidents
Work with 3rd party service providers to address outages and disruptions
Respond to business-critical emergencies, both during and after business hours
Determine action plans to address issues, communicating proactively with service users and stakeholders.
25% - Network Management & Administration
Develop and implement procedures for management, including reporting of performance KPI’s
Perform regular compliance audits of systems
Develop network lifecycle plans
Ensure networks are secure and compliant
Document and maintain the current environment for operational and planning purposes.
Manage and negotiate with key network and telecommunications vendorsRequirements:
Requirements
8+ years’ experience in the IT industry designing, implementing, and supporting a multisite network infrastructure
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field is required
Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCDP, CCIE) a plus
Awareness and familiarity with ITIL/SDLC concepts and principles
In depth and hands on experience with:
o Fortinet and Cisco ASA/Firepower firewalls (CLI/ASDM), Nexus and Catalyst core and edge switches, ISR routers
o Kemp load balancers
o Content Filtering (Barracuda and Fortinet)
o BGP, OSPF, route redistribution, VxLAN, IP SLA, QoS, HSRP/VRRP, VRF, Spanning-Tree, 802.1p/q, vPC and other high availability configurations and advanced network implementations
o Firewall ACL, NAT, Policy and Route based L2L VPN configurations, SD-WAN
o Nagios, PRTG, Netflow, SNMP and other network monitoring tools
o Troubleshooting IP/TCP/UDP using tools/techniques such as wireshark, Cisco CML/VIRL, Traceroute, Firewall Packet-tracer, Syslog (Sumo Logic)
o Network Taps and Packet Brokers
o Ubiquiti WLAN APs, controllers, 802.1x
o Visio, Excel, Word, Confluence, etc.
o Understanding of carrier transport technologies such as MPLS, VPLS, DWDM, SDH
o Understanding of traditional analog and digital telecommunications
o Linux and open-source experience a plus
