Pay varies by position and is based on multiple factors including labor market data and, depending on position, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, and/or certifications. Additionally, Sportech takes into account the internal equity of current employees when considering compensation. Sportech’s reasonable and good-faith estimate for the range of new hire compensation at the time of posting for this position is between $80,000 - $95,000 annually. Pay may also include variable compensation from time to time such as overtime for non-exempt positions, shift differential for specific shifts, and/or bonus targets (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
Job Summary
The Sr. Design Quality Engineer fully supports product development activities and manages a team to support advanced product quality planning (APQP), execution, customer approvals and operations handoffs on all new product development (NPD) projects within their respective customer team. It is a strategic position providing quality guidance, training, influence, collaboration, and partnership.
Essential Job Functions
Serves as the primary quality partner supporting new product development customer teams.
Distributes work across team members, oversees completion, and provides feedback for improvement.
Interfaces directly with customers on a frequent basis to ensure customer requirements are agreed upon in the acceptance stages and built into the project scope.
Collaborates with supply chain and suppliers to ensure Sportech quality standards are achieved and maintained including support of supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions.
Reviews and approves Engineering drawings in support of respective customer team.
Ensures successful customer prototype sample approval, pre-production approval, production approval, and flawless project hand-off to production.
Utilizes metrology, statistical methods, and root cause analysis to analyze and solve problems during new product development.
Coaches and develops employees to maximize their effectiveness and career growth. Identifies high potential employees for greater levels of responsibility and scope of position.
Executes training on all concepts within the APQP suite of tools (PPAP, FMEA’s, control plans, capability studies).
Leads training on how to read engineering drawings, including GD&T dimensioning applying ASME 14.5Y requirements.
Manages dates, milestones, and timelines for key projects as assigned.
Documents data and effectively communicates lessons learned for into future projects and design reviews.
Demonstrates engaged leadership style that empowers and promotes involvement, communication, clear expectations, accountability, and a passion for excellence.
Acts as the primary point of contact for escalated customer or partner concerns, ensuring timely and effective resolution while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Performs miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned.
Proactively identifying risks in potential designs and working collaboratively to reduce or resolve the risks before finalizing the design.Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred with 7+ years related experience.
Certified Quality Engineer is a plus.
Knowledge of AIAG standards, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, Control Plans, and MSA.
ISO 9001 and/or ISO/TS 16949 quality systems requirements and knowledge
Understanding of CMM use and CAD software knowledge (Verisurf a plus).
Expertise in reading engineering drawings, including GD&T dimensioning applying ASME 14.5Y requirements.
Excellent internal and external customer services skills.
Proven supervision and leadership experience.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
Some travel required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work in production facility with fluctuating temperatures and humidity levels.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time to support sample builds and production launches.
Ability to consistently wear personal protective equipment.
