Supervisor - Proving Ground Operations

Job Description:
As the Supervisor, Proving Ground Operations, you will play a critical role in the integration, development and validation of Allison Transmission’s prototype and production propulsion systems at a vehicle level. You will be responsible for leading vehicle integration/conversion programs, conducting multiple validation programs and managing the overall test vehicle fleet. This position requires strong leadership skills and proven knowledge and experience with commercial vehicles and powertrain/propulsion systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for the day-to-day direct supervision of a team of direct shop technician and direct communication with local leasing partner
Provide decision-making and a high level of independent judgment based on experience and skill
Plan daily shop technician activities
Conducts performance reviews and assists in the development of shop technicians
Ensures monthly financial reviews and credit card purchases are submitted a timely manner.
Lead the execution of vehicle conversion and test hardware integration projects
Troubleshooting of test equipment and vehicle diagnostics
Interfaces and collaborates with Allison Transmission internal resources and business partners
Work closely with Speedway Product Engineer(s) to make sure test deliverables (information) are completed on-time, to keep them informed of current test status, and resolve priority issues within/across the various product groups
Works closely with Speedway test engineer(s) in utilizing a systems engineering approach to design, develop, implement, and execute reliable, repeatable testing in support of business needs and timing
Contribute to department continuous improvement activities to increase testing efficiency, reduce cost, and drive high levels of quality
Ensures shop is sufficiently supplied with necessary supplies to support the day to day activities
Procures necessary parts for vehicle repairs and/or maintenance requiring interaction with external suppliers
Ensures shop is a safe working environment by following Allison and OSHA safety standards and procedures
Ensures the vehicle fleet meets or exceeds DOT regulations
Ensures equipment is calibrated as required.
Participates and supports the ISO16949 quality audit.
Assumes appropriate responsibilities as a member of the assigned product development team
Participates in cross-functional planning and/or status meetings
Promotes teamwork on all work related assignments
Maintains willingness to share professional knowledge and experience with teammates
Supervises and oversees the execution of vehicle preparation for product tests
Creating, managing, and delivering multiple projects on-time and to budget
Assures facilities and support areas are informed, equipped, and prepared to match the flow of test needs
Assists with the documentation of test events/results through proofreading and authorizing durability driver reports
Prepares, or assists in preparation of vehicle bids or requests for cost estimates
Observes applicable procedures and practices as delineated in Test Operations Manual, PE Procedures, Tech Data, and Standard Procedures

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automotive Engineering or equivalent degree/experience
Minimum 5 years of commercial vehicle experience related to vehicle level validation, vehicle fleet management, powertrain system validation, or equivalent experience
Possession of (or willing and able to obtain) a Class A CDL
Proven knowledge of commercial vehicle systems, functions, and features
Strong mechanical/electrical knowledge
Understanding of powertrain control software and calibration
Demonstrated skills in troubleshooting electronic controls, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
Data processing/analysis experience
Strong oral and written communication
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong leadership skills required to coordinate and manage activities across multiple people and groups.
Proficiency with computer operations, including Microsoft Office tools
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings required
Occasional travel to support projects at remote Allison Transmission facilities
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Previous experience with EV or Hybrid vehicle propulsion systems
Understanding of high voltage electrical systems and power electronics
Experience in laboratory test environment
Strong knowledge of automatic transmission operation, clutches, controls (both hydraulic and electrical), hydraulics, gears, electric machines, and hybrid and electrified propulsion systems desired but not required
