Job Description
The small engine mechanic inspects, maintains, and repairs small engines, and equipment. This includes diagnosing issues, performing routine maintenance, and making necessary repairs, including replacing worn or defective parts. Communicating with service writers, provide estimates, and keep detailed records of work performed.
Key responsibilities include:
Diagnosing and troubleshooting engine problems: Identifying the root cause of malfunctions and determining the necessary repairs.
Performing routine maintenance: Oil changes, spark plug replacements, air filter changes, and other preventative maintenance tasks.
Repairing and replacing engine parts: Replacing worn or damaged parts, such as carburetors, fuel pumps, and ignition systems.
Reassembling and reinstalling components: Properly reassembling engines and components after repairs.
Communicating with service writers: Explaining repairs, providing estimates, and addressing customer concerns.
Maintaining records: Keeping detailed records of work performed, parts used, and inspection results.
Using specialized tools: Utilizing a variety of tools, including hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Skills and abilities required:
The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years working as a small engine technician in a professional environment.
Mechanical aptitude: A natural inclination towards understanding and working with mechanical systems.
Problem-solving skills: Ability to diagnose issues, identify root causes, and determine effective solutions.
Communication skills: Ability to clearly communicate with customers about repairs and provide estimates.
